Any language or culture or era, except very American-type ones like surnames or states, or very unusual pronunciations.

I have a Girl Taylor, the only others I know are boys. I hate when people asked if I named her after Taylor Swift Hmm never occurred to me and loved the name since I was a child myself.

I used to work with a female Theo. I think it might have been short for Theodora but you could give the short form to a girl or a boy.

Ive recently heard of a girl called Spencer - always thought of it as a boys name but apparently it’s gaining popularity as a girls name too!

There's lots of Japanese names that are unisex, but maybe hard to pull off if you're not from that background, and some Finnish ones, too.

Otherwise, how about Linden? It's a tree, like Rowan, so it's valid, and I think it sounds nice for either a boy or girl. Or Valentine? Val? You said you knew too many people called Alex, but would Alexis serve?

Short for Lorelei/Laurelie if a girl or Laurance/Laurent if a boy.

I love Laurie for either sex and would use it like a shot if only DP liked it too

I agree. I wouldn't actually choose a name which is truly predominantly female or male, due to spelling. Like Joe/Jo or Robin/Robyn. We're actually quite traditional in terms of names. Blush Which makes it hard.
Gill and Gill are good written down. But I don't like it. I think Rowan and Jude are pretty spot-on, but Jude is totally out due to family, and Rowan is a bit odd with our surname.
I wonder if there aren't any more non-English names that aren't too difficult to spell or say for a native UK crowd. I've looked at Dutch, German and French, but feel I need to venture further afield too. Those Hawaiian names from earlier were interesting if not entirely right due to my own associations. There must be more?

Gill - pronounced with a hard 'g' for a boy and a soft 'g' for a girl. I know a Gillan who goes by Gil because people inevitably spell his name as Gillian.

I think with lots of the names written here, any benefit as far as job applications is completely negated by given the wrong sex name.

But a lot of these wouldn’t work as ‘ooh is it a man or woman’ if they are written down, ie on a job application, due to the spelling... jo/joe etc Confused

Clare for a boy makes me think of (the man) Angel Clare in Tess of the D'Urbervilles.

How about Jasper? I know it's normally a boy's name, but it's a gemstone, and I can't see why it's different to Amber, for example. I think it could work for a girl. I'm not normally a fan of boy's name for girls, but this seems a little different - it doesn't scream "male" at me.
