Is it okay to use this name?

Tia for a girl. A bit put off by what TIA is in medical terms, would you still use it?

It's too cutesy a name to be used in it's own right. I don't think anyone would take a Tia seriously. If it was short for something like Dorothea or something then that'd be good.

How about taya (that's the pronunciation, not the spelling! I don't know how to spell it apart from Tea, a girl I used to teach but was pronounced taya....wouldn't recommend that spelling!!)

My niece is called Tia and I've never thought of that association! She's 16 and hates her name though, wishes it was something 'normal', whatever that means to a teenager.

Tia = Tia Maria to me. I've met a couple of kids called it, so it's not unheard of. I don't like Mia (over used) or Nia (seems unfinished), but Pia is nice. I agree it'd get shortened to Pee though Grin

Tiana is nice in theory but screams Disney Princess to me, so I wouldn't use it.

I'm not a fan but then the only two Tia's I've known have been Tia Maria and Tia Maria which makes it seem a bit trashy tbh. Wouldn't think of the medical term and I like Mia so I probably would like it if I'd not met the Tia's mentioned above

I like Tia and know a very cute one.

I went to school with a Zea (pronounced like Tia) and always thought that was a great name.

I've a friend called Tia and never once thought of any of the suggestions above. She's lovely and I've always envied her lovely name.

Tia means aunt in Spanish and Portuguese. I personally don't like it

Of course you can use Tia as a name, I have met perents with children called Tia (Merseyside) also there is a footballer with a daughter who has this name.

In the medical context it’s an acronym so reads as letters (I.e TeeEyeAy) - so I wouldn’t even think of it if I saw Tia the name

When I joined MN I thought there were an awful lot of people called TIA.

It's Spanish for aunt. Tia Maria (Aunty Mary) is a brand of liqueur.

Didn't notice the medical connection but I did think 'thanks in advance' while I was trying to work out the medical one. Wouldn't put me off.
