Opinions/ middle names for Rogue

I have been looking for names for a little while. I want something unusual thats not going to crop up everywhere and Rogue is the only name ive really fallen in love with! I would use it for either a boy or a girl. Middle name for a boy would be John after a family member, but im worried Rogue John sounds a bit like a dodgy curry! Middle names for a girl would either be Evangeline, joan or Elizabeth. Does anyone have any opinions/suggestions/alternatives? (No Rogans or logans please!)

Know it's over a year old, but just saw this topic. I'd still would use it op, I like the name too, and plan to use it. Was having second thoughts, but after this thread I will use it. Found the perfect middle name too.

Op is getting a really hard time on here. It's like being in the playground.. op has taken on board the comments and is not going with Rogue which she said quite some time ago.

I didn't think that it was a good choice either (mainly for playground / teacher / other peoples perceptions even if he turned out to be the best behaved boy on the planet) and quite a few helpful suggestions have have given her some other options but I don't think the piss take comments (particularly the ones made after the OP had already said she changed her mind) are very nice or fair.

Good luck with choosing your name op

Shadowcat is another favourite of mine 😬

FlawlessFuckup · 01/02/2018 18:23

Have you considered Satan-Grace?
Has a similar feel Grin

Beansonapost · 01/02/2018 17:58

Rogue Willie.

Pigeonpost · 01/02/2018 17:49

Like in X-Men? No, just no.

SoupDragon · 01/02/2018 17:49

If we are going with XMen/Marvel superheros, Maggot has a certain ring to it.

SoupDragon · 01/02/2018 17:47

And I still think the link to The X-Men overrides that.

Rogue is a nickname. Her real name is Anna Marie.

shushpenfold · 01/02/2018 17:39

Annjosh

Makes me think some people have limited vocabularies. They don't use the word rogue, so don't realise its in common use to describe low level criminals and those who carry out bad behaviour. For these people its just a nice sounding word. It would be a shame if a child got a name like this which is a word in wide use, just because a parent didn't know or realise. And its a greater shame thatvwhen this is explained to them, they still don't understand why its inappropriate.

WombatChocolate · 01/02/2018 17:35

Absolutely hysterical. I laughed and spat out my sandwich.

This isn't about choosing an odd or unusual name. It isn't about having creativity crushed. Its about not realising that this isn't a name but a word used to describe a bad person, which is in common usage - it isn't a name with historical connections to something unsavoury but a word commonly used to describe criminals, wide boys and con merchants. Would op have considered con artist as a name, or cheat or petty theif? Surely not.
Its not just about how's word sounds but its meaning too. I might like the sound that the word prostitute makes....but I wouldn't choose it because everyone knows what it means.
I suspect OP didn't fully understand what it means because no one would call their child thief, scoundrel or bad person if they realised its in common usage to describe people who carry out behaviours we don't consider socially acceptable. How about Waster or Scrounger? Thrymight roll off the tounge nicely but that doesn't mean they are suitable as names.

TheQueenOfWands · 01/02/2018 17:35

Really?

I've never heard anyone use it.

And I still think the link to The X-Men overrides that.

wowfudge · 01/02/2018 17:14

What utter bollocks QueenofWands The word rogue is definitely still in use.

TatianaLarina · 01/02/2018 13:27

I think Rogue as a name is completely... rogue.

TheQueenOfWands · 01/02/2018 13:20

I like Rogue as a name.

Everyone's heard of Rogue from The X-Men. Awesome character and the word 'rogue' isn't really in use any more.

Better than yet another Ellie, Amelia or Eva. At least it's something different.

TatianaLarina · 01/02/2018 13:15

Lies is a German/Dutch name pronounced Leece. As in Liesel.

I think it’s a diminutive of Elisabeth.

(To the pp who said there was one in school).

BarbaraOcumbungles · 01/02/2018 12:35

Hugo is pretty much the same as Rogue

How are you saying Rogue? They are nothing alike other than having a few of the same letters.

sumsumsum · 01/02/2018 11:26

Hugo is pretty much the same as Rogue, sound-wise. And with a g, and an o and a u.

Njordsgrrrl · 31/01/2018 23:47

You need a normal one to balance it out a bit. Something like Sean, Daniel or Balonz.

YourWinter · 31/01/2018 23:17

Why does anyone feel it's ok to sentence their child to a lifetime of having to a) spell and b) explain its ridiculous name?

JPTB · 31/01/2018 22:14

OP, I am all for alternative names, and love word name names more than any other! But Rogue just doesn't have a good meaning (though neither does John - toilet, Johnny - condom, Nick - thief, Pat - cow poo).

How about Rocque
Name Meaning. Southern French: topographic name for someone who lived by a rocky crag or outcrop, a variant of Roca.

drspouse · 31/01/2018 21:49

I'm sure there are worse names isn't exactly a ringing endorsement is it?

VanillaSugar · 31/01/2018 20:44

Can this go in Classics?
