Girls name help please, Eleanor? Annie?

We are struggling with a girls name

We both like Eleanor and Annie
Husband likes Abigail but I don’t like it
I really like Arabella but husband doesn’t

Just wondering if you have a preference?
Or a suggested similar girls name?

Many thanks

The problem with Elanor is that it can sound nice in some accents, but people with broad accents can really stretch out the O and give it a deep ugly sound.

I've heard it said niceley: EleAnOr
And I've heard it said ugly: ehLLanoOor

I have an Annie it’s a real name! Arabelle is awfully twee, Eleanor is lovely (but dh and I had a spelling disagreement Elinor vs Eleanor). And Abigail is awfully out of generation name- isn’t it?

I think Megan is a similar type name to Eleanor but I accept that 2018 maybe isn’t the year for it!

An abigail is also an archaic word for a maidservant.

Also like Anna or something with Anna at the end of it...Marianna, Arianna etc.

bellalou1234 · 28/01/2018 17:04

I love Abigail

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/01/2018 17:02

Eleanor is beautiful. I don't like Annie but Anna is lovely.

Not keen on Abigail.

We have an Eleanor so bias. There are a whole array of nicknames too; Ellie, Ella, Elle, it is also a classic name as well as versatility and she has never complained about her name.

Arabella is very lovely too - strong and classic - can be shortened to Belle.

Not keen on Abigail

Great names, you may like:
Adelicia
Honora
They are of a similar sound to the names you both like but rarer and give familiar Nn's.

RavenWings · 28/01/2018 16:01

Eleanor and Annie are very different imo. Annie is very nicknamey. I love the idea of naming her Anne and nicknaming Annie though - stands out from the swarms of Annas!

I don't like Eleanor. I like Abigail, though. Arabella is awful flouncy, prim and fussy to my ear.

Charismam · 28/01/2018 16:01

Annabel or Anya?
I don't like Abigail too much either but I like Gale as a middle name.

Libby is nicer than Abby.

Eleanor is ok. Prefer Leonor

RapunzelLetDownYourHair7 · 28/01/2018 15:59

I like Arabella most.

I really don't like Annie, Eleanor and Abigail. Annie isn't a full name IMO, Abigail is very plain and Eleanor is outdated.

AnyaMoondial · 28/01/2018 15:54

I like Annie. It's great actually.

pumpkinpieinmyeye · 28/01/2018 15:45

I love Eleanor, such a pretty name.

I like El-ay-na but not El-in-or. So probably Annie. Although I think Anna is far more classy.

Aurora. Anastasia. Annaliese.Amelia. Eliza. Emilia. Evelyn. Isadora. Imogen.

Eleanor = a queen. Annie = the girl who carries water for Eleanor's bath.

winterwonderly · 28/01/2018 15:01

Love Eleanor.

TheQueenOfWands · 28/01/2018 14:56

Annie is a nickname. Annabell is nice.

Eleanor is lovely.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/01/2018 14:52

I love Abigail, but would go with Eleanor, from your list.
