Elizabeth?

Tell me your thoughts on Elizabeth. DH and I are going around in circles trying to find a name for dd3 (we have fairly traditional names for our other dd's.) DH really likes this name (it was the name of his late mother), I am hoping it will grown on me too (I do quite like Eliza) but I think it is the beth bit that I find a bit grating. Any other suggestions please...I know there are plenty of shortened nicknames for Elizabeth too.

We have a 13 month old Elizabeth. When we decided on it, it was the appeal of being able to shorten it to so many different names - Eliza, Lizzie, Beth, Libby. Since day 1 she has only ever been Elizabeth with the occasional Elz - I just can't bring myself to shorten it now Smile.

It's my name and while I'm not enamoured with the meaning, it often strikes me what a pretty name it is. I really don't dislike it! I tend to be Elizabeth in full, but there's some lovely nicknames if Eliza doesn't stick.

It's my name.

I have no complaints. I don't know many others (none my age), but everyone knows how to spell and pronounce it. It's classic, feminine, but has less feminine shortenings if you're not a girly girl etc.

I was supposed to be Amelia, and I do prefer that, but I think it's a case of "the grass is greener". I don't think many people love their name, but as far as names goes, Elizabeth is pretty flawless.

Elizabeth is a fab name, but if you don't like the Beth part go with just Eliza.

It's Elisabeth in Scandinavia and sometimes in Wales.
I love the short form Leusa for a Welsh-speaker. It sounds a bit but not quite like Lisa.

The Elizabeths I know have sisters called Alana, Nicole and Amelia. Do any of those work for you?

I like it spelt with an S (Elisabeth) - I think it's German. Something soft about it somehow! I know someone who then shortened it to Lis which I also thought was nice.

Betty and Betsy are nice and Elsie is getting popular.

Other names on the list included Georgina/Georgiana and Josephine (DH not so keen on Josephine).

I like it, but if you don’t then find another in case it doesn’t grow on you! What was DH’s mum’s middle name?

DH doesn't think much of Eliza but I think my preference would be to put Elizabeth on her birth certificate but call her Eliza (I know Eliza is a name in its own right). We have had so much difficulty finding a third girls name we can both agree on, first and second time, no problem! I think the shortened Betty is cute too!

you could call her Eliza. It's lovely and would honour your MIL.
You can shorten Elizabeth to Lizbeth in speech.
Lily, Bess and Elsie.
are also short for Elizabeth.

I love it. It's my middle name so would have been weird to use for my dd's.
Beautiful as a full name but endless nn options.

Our DD2 has Elizabeth as her middle name.
DH's mother was Elizabeth.

It’s on my list as it’s beautiful and classic but I’m a little worried that Kate Middleton might use it and it become very popular. That probably sounds daft but I have already have a Charlotte (16). I’ve been toying with Elizabella or Elizabelle too just for something a little different.

I am one. It is a great name. Already said but loads of options for shortening. Liz, Lizzy, Lizzie, Eliza, Ellie, Libby, Beth, Betty, Betsy, Bet. (Yes, I know some of those are not good! But choice is...)
