Elizabeth?

Tell me your thoughts on Elizabeth. DH and I are going around in circles trying to find a name for dd3 (we have fairly traditional names for our other dd's.) DH really likes this name (it was the name of his late mother), I am hoping it will grown on me too (I do quite like Eliza) but I think it is the beth bit that I find a bit grating. Any other suggestions please...I know there are plenty of shortened nicknames for Elizabeth too.

I know someone who occasionally calls there daughter lilibet as a nickname for Elizabeth.

I know of a baby Elizabeth. It’s a beautiful name I think. Her parents call her the full name.

And definitely don't like Liz as a shortened name (sorry any Liz's out there). It is dd1's middle name - what makes it preferential for a middle but not a first name do you think?

It's growing on me...just like my bump!
DH and I are disagreeing on nick names...we will have to come to a compromise!

We have an Elizabeth and I love her name. She is called Eliza and Ellie as nicknames.

I have one- she's Betsy now but plenty of options as she grows up if she wants to use Elizabeth, Beth etc.

I love Elizabeth. You could consider Elspeth, Lisbeth, Elise, Elsie, Bettina, Elsa, etc, etc. I'm not so keen on Libby myself - it sounds like Lippy.

Also, it seems popular as a middle name rather than a first name - my dd1 has it as a middle name for those who have used it as a middle name why didn't it quite make it as a first name (what were your preferences?)

O.K...for all of the Elizabeth fans...which nickname do you prefer (to potentially be used on a day to day basis (perhaps at school)?
Libby?
Eliza?
Betsy?

I had totally overlooked this name until DH mentioned it; he says nothing for weeks whilst I ponder away and then seems to come up with some really good names!

I think it's a beautiful, classic name. The Italian spelling is beautiful too "Elizabetta" the shortening to Elise is lovely but I would NOT allow anyone to refer to her as "Liz". As pp said it reminds me of coronation street!

You could put Elizabeth on her birth certificate and then let her own nick name evolve. She will grow into her name. Smile

It's a great choice. Really like the nicknames Eliza, Lizzie and Betty too.

I guess you've considered the other classic names but how about Anna/Sophie/Josephine/Jemima/Florence

Beautiful name it's my friends name and she shortens it down to Libby which I like aswell.

Yes, the shortened Libby is nice too.
I don't think the Royals will use Elizabeth if they have a little girl - I think that they would potentially leave that name clear for a future monarch (George?).
The name would match with other dds names who both have classic names. It just doesn't feel daring somehow to use the name (maybe that's a good thing - a lot of misconstruing Geogiana perhaps?) but as others have said, it ticks so many boxes...waiting to see if it grows on me.

I don’t think you need to worry about the royal baby being an Elizabeth. They’ve already used it for one of Charlotte’s middle names.
