Mabli? (not Welsh)

Is it OK to use Mabli (for a girl) with no Welsh connection?

And what do you think of the name?

I live in Yorkshire, and when DS1 went to the childminders (many years ago, he's an adult now) there was a Mabli there, with no welsh connections. It's lovely, and people will get used to the pronunciation very quickly

I would also pronounce it Mayblee as I don’t know the name, and I actually like that pronounciation. Mabli the correct way is nice but I do now say it in a welsh accent! I think it’s ok to correct people there are plenty of names that aren’t instantly recognisable and people learn quickly.

I've never heard it before and instantly pronounced it May-blee so I would expect you'll and your DD will be constantly correcting people, it's a lovely name though.

I don't like it. I particularly don't like the correct pronunciation.

DD2's name is spelled the Welsh way because I thought it looked pretty. Of course, people tell her she has mis-spelled it all the time and it annoyed her when she was a child that she couldn't get items with her name on it. There is no Welsh connection in my family. I just liked the name.

It sounds very Welsh to me but you can use any name you want! Such a pretty name

Oh dear, I hadn’t thought of “mayblee” being a potential pronunciation. I don’t fancy correcting all the time, but I do love the name!

Does it matter that neither of us is Welsh?

I think it's OK to use, but I think most will pronounce it Mayblee.

Mabli is pronounced mab (like cab) lee.
