Essie- what can her grown up name be?

Ps my sister is Elizabeth and got called Bess and Bessie when she was younger - so it would work for Essie too! I was always jealous of the amount of nicknames she got called by different people - Betty, Lilibet, Lizzie, Bessie... in fact I wish I used the name for my dd! I, too, like options.

@viques I don't think it's that strange to choose a 'nickname' you love first - I know someone who loved the name Lottie and so put Charlotte on the birth certificate for when she's older, someone with a Piper but with Philippa on the birth certificate for when she's older and someone whose child goes by Posy but has Josephine on the birth certificate. They're all known by everyone as the nicknames, not the formal names (even at school!).

Estée is one of my fave names atm, and love it with nn Essie. I think if Essie was her first name that would still be shortened even more - ti was most likely! (I have a Zoë and thought that was short enough... nope she now gets Zoz or Zo)

Ellis is also nice with nn Essie.

I taught an Estée and it really grew on me. Sounds lovely and so unusual and chic! Essie is so cute for a toddler and child, but she'll want a more sophisticated name to fall back on when she's applying for jobs, etc.

I also like Estelle but Estée is just lovely.

My Nan was named Bessie. Not short for anything. So you could go with Essie. Or Bessie! Grin

My granny was called Esyllt, but was called Essie when young and Sally later on. She never knew how to pronounce her proper name though, which is sad I think.

Essie sounds like a name you picked off a counter in Boots or it could be short for Esso.

Estelle. I used to work with one and she was super cool and very glamorous. Loved the name ever since.
