Do you think Aoife blends in too much with all the Eva's and Ava's about? Obviously the spelling makes it stand out but is the pronunciation too similar? My daughter has a traditional irish name and looking for another.

I'd love another girl just so I could call her Saoirse, beautiful name and meaning.

Eva and Aoife do have a similar sound. It depends where you live, if in Ireland it won't blend in but I can understand your concern if say living in England as on only hearing the name and not seeing the spelling people could pick it up as Eva, as the ear would probably default to Eva as that is what they are used to hearing. Sorry I don't know if I'm explaining myself properly.

The spelling doesn't bother me. I have a Saoirse. After you explain it once people generally get it. I'm more worried about it sounding too much like Eva and Ava. I'd pronounce it eefa.

Love it and don't think it blends in with Evas and Avas. A front runner for us if current bump is a girl.

Compared to lots of Irish names the spelling isn't too bad. It's only 5 letters. Go for it.

I know an Aoife and it's a lovely name, but spelling it and explaining it her whole life is very irritating to her.

I know a few Aoifes, two adult and one newborn but all have Irish heritage. It is very similar to Eva in sound but probably wouldn't get the even more common Evie.

Certainly not like the Evas and Avas, but unless you are Irish I'd probably be a bit as to why you chose it. Mainly due to the lifetime of having to tell people how to say it.

The pronounciation sounds fine but I have to physically stop myself from calling my friends DD ay-oh-eef.

I know one and she constantly gets called Eva. People unfamiliar tend to miss hear.

Op, my DD is 7. There are 2 Ava's, an Eva and an Aoife in her class, that's 4 of 12 girls with virtually the same name. It is a nice one though.

It won't blend in but she'll spend the rest of her life spelling it for people all the time. I'm friends with an Aoife

I think Aoife is a beautiful name but I would expect some people will struggle with the spelling. That wouldn’t be enough to put me off though. If you love the name go for it!
