Do you think Aoife blends in too much with all the Eva's and Ava's about? Obviously the spelling makes it stand out but is the pronunciation too similar? My daughter has a traditional irish name and looking for another.

I love the name Aoife, reminds me of a wonderful Irish TA at my secondary school who was kind, clever and helped me massively with loads of stuff. ❤❤

Tabby your comment was incredibly rude actually.

Aofie may get confused with Eva but so does Amelie/Emily, Annabel/Amabel and lots of other names. Once corrected I’m sure it wouldn’t be a problem. It’s a lovely name :)

Sorry user...I know!! Somehow Woofie has just stuck with me. I've never actually met an Aoife though...perhaps when/if I do the correct pronunciation will stick. It's such a pretty name but anyone with it will surely be asked to say/spell it all the time. I'm mum to an Isaac. I never dreamed it would be a problem but so many people mispronounce and misspell it.

LOL, OP. The point is whether it bothers your children; you remember, the ones who have to live with it their whole lives.

To answer your question, though. Yes, they will constantly get mixed up with Eva.

I love that name so much. No matter how many times I look up the correct pronunciation, to me it's pronounced 'Woofie' Blush

I have an Aoife she is 14 Yes people struggle with the name if they dont know how to say it. However once they have been told they usually are just fine with it.

She likes having a name not everyone can spell or say.

How about Caoimhe? Was a favourite of mine but went with something more welsh and easier to spell. Plus I also had a Caelan and wanted different initials.

No, that makes sense eight days. I'm just stumped. I love the name Saoirse so much and want a name I love just as much. It's proving to be very difficult. I love Imogen but I think it's quite popular. We are in Scotland so I'll need to look up our name statistics and see.
