DH & I will be TTC #2 in a few months. DS is called Noah & we want to pick another Hebrew name for #2.

We both like the name Shai for a boy however I don't want to have to always be explaining how it's pronounced. That will annoy me & him!

So how would you pronounce it & do you like it?

It's pronounced like "shy"

RestingGrinchFace · 05/01/2018 12:00

To rhyme with chai latte

Bellamuerte · 05/01/2018 11:58

Shay, like Shayne. I'm not a fan personally.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 05/01/2018 11:49

Shay & i think GOT

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/01/2018 11:44

I agree, Noah and Jethro sound well together.

Lleyr · 04/01/2018 21:06

You know how sometimes you have those associations? My ex cheated with a woman whose nickname is Shai. Other than that, why not?

horatioisabrick · 04/01/2018 20:33

Shy... I don't like it.

Elijah, Asher, Jehu, Jethro, Levi, Urban, Shiloh, Hoshea/Oshea, Joash, Ishmael, Elah, Elon?

IggyAce · 04/01/2018 20:20

My DS has a little girl in his called Shai and it's pronounced Shy.

happytobemrsg · 04/01/2018 20:20

I might go on that website which gives you popular sibling names. See if I get any more ideas. Thanks everyone!

Exactly Astrid. I bet there are many wonderful Shays out there, but yeah for me the immediate association is pretty negative.

FlawlessFuckup · 04/01/2018 20:18

Shy
And no, it's awful

AppyForts · 04/01/2018 20:16

I’d say Shy and if you liked 90s R&B like I did back in the day you’d know...Grin

Shai

AstridWhite · 04/01/2018 20:12

somewhere the Shaye I know is a sweetheart, so I like it because of that. It's funny how associations can sway opinion so much.

SandyBeyatch · 04/01/2018 20:12

"Shy" like Thai would be my guess.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 04/01/2018 20:11

I would say Shy, if it had an e instead of i then I would pronounce it Shay

ScreamingValenta · 04/01/2018 20:11

"Shy"; and it's not a name I like. It sounds a bit too try-hard.

Somewherethatsgreen · 04/01/2018 20:09

Shay. I know a female Shay, who is somewhat horrible.

AstridWhite · 04/01/2018 20:09

I have never heard Shai, only a boy called Shay and a girl called Shaye. I like it for a girl, less so for a boy.

I guess Shai would be pronounced like Shy which doesn't really work for me.

fannyfelcher · 04/01/2018 20:07

Sorry but any name that is pronounced "shay" always instantly makes me ask " Where do whores go?" In Tyrion's voice from Game Of Thrones. I have tried and tried to get rid of it but it sticks. I recently mentioned it to a friend and she said she did the exact same thing.

happytobemrsg · 04/01/2018 20:06

RunRabbitRunRabbit That's one of my concerns.

MrsHathaway it's annoying how popular Noah it but it was the only boy name we could both agree on!

It is pronounced "Shy" so it looks like the majority of people would pronounce it correctly

Shy. Which is asking for quips about his confidence level for the rest of his life.

ShatnersBassoon · 04/01/2018 20:03

Like Chay, which is OK. If it is like shy, then I'm not so keen.

BathTangle · 04/01/2018 20:02

I'd say Shy. I quite like it and like the idea of a Hebrew name but suspect people will assume it is a "made up" spelling. Depends if that would bother you!
