Tiffany / Bridget

Still TTC but we really love the names Bridget and Tiffany for a girl. What are your opinions on these names? We don't know if they are too dated? Do any of you have kids with older fashioned names? Thanks

I don't like Bridget.

But I've always liked Tiffany. It is very American 80s but I think it's a nice name.

Bridget is lovely. I know two, both are wonderful (a Bridget and a Brigid).

Tiffany makes me think of an 80s American girl. Not a fan.

We have seen two pronunciations for the name Anaïs in the book. One was an-ay-EES.. the other way was An-AY making the S silent. We think we prefer An-AY, but don't know if the other way would be easier for others🤷 As I say right now we are just brainstorming names though so will do proper research anyway when time comes😊 Thank you though xx

Make sure you know how to pronounce Anaïs or you'll be slaughtered on here!

Thank you all so so much, this has been really helpful. As I say we are still only TTC, but our shortlist for girls now is Tiffany or Anaïs :) We let Bridget go as I am only short and after some thinking earlier today, im not sure I could burden her with "Bridget the Midget" if she takes after me height wise! We also like Aria but after I said on my other thread the only boys name we love is Ezra so that is too PPL. Thank you all again. Hopefully we will be back soon enough (if treatments, etc all go to plan🤞) deciding on middle names for Ezra or Tiffany/Anaïs. You've all been really helpful xxx

daisy - I agree, funny how knowing the origins can make you feel so differently about a name isn’t it? I liked Tiffany anyway which is why I looked into it, and was really surprised to find it is such an old name. DD is due in the next few weeks, but if she’s born on the 6th I may have to use the name!

is it the Tiff bit or the 'anny' bit you like. I think it sounds nice, has a nice meaning and is fine as a name, but I think a lot of people will think 80s initially.

would Stephanie, melanie, bryony, Bethany give the same feel but less 80s?

I like Bridget.

uhohmummy - That is really interesting about Tiffany. I had no idea it was such an old name. I'd assumed Tiffany was after the jeweller's and was hence somewhat tacky. It's funny how it puts a completely different light on the name, knowing it's in fact a medieval religious name, the English form of the Greek girls' name Theophania - Epiphany. I feel much more warmly towards it now.

I think Bridget is an awful name. Very frumpy.

I love Tiffany and wanted to call my DD that. I didn't because it always got an awful reaction whenever I mentioned it.

I'd go back to the drawing board to be honest.

I really like Tiffany. Not brave enough to use it because of the connotations it has - as mentioned on this thread. Far from being a 1980s airhead, it’s actually a medieval name for a child born on Twelfth Night. I might still use it if DD comes then.
I’m not a fan of Bridget though. That feels far more dated to me.

FWIW, I think Aria is beautiful. You really do have eclectic taste.

Have you considered Briar, if you want unusual? The "Br" of Bridget and the vowels of Aria?

I still like Tiffany and Bridget, and if you do too then that's all that matters.

If you have a soft spot for Tiffany because of your Grandma, then use it regardless what other's say. Yes it was a lot more popular of a name in the 80s than it is today, but that just means she'll be unique on the playground.

I also agree that if you like Ezra, Aria might not be the best choice (PLL).

However, if you're looking for some other ideas, then how about:

Aria is beautiful. Bridget would usually be shortened to bridge. I know two people who go by bree. One is Aubrey, and the other is Brianna.

Hey thank you all for the feedback. We had no idea both names were so disliked. Tiffany we thought sounded sweet, it is also my Nanas middle name so I have a soft spot for. Bridget is just a name we really liked, especially because of the nickname Bree/Bri.
DH and I are still TTC, had difficulties but hoping this year will be our year so just been playing around with names.
One other name we really liked was Aria, problem with that is the ONLY boys names we love is Ezra. So it would be too PLL if we had a girl and then later on a boy.
Do any of you perhaps have some other girl name suggestions? We arent too sure on what our style is but we quite like names which are unheard of for girls. We already have a boy name (Ezra) we just cant seem to think of any girls names which arent trendy or overpopular. Thank you xx

Bridget is one of the ugliest names there is. Why would you inflict that on a child?
