Some early name thoughts

Quite early to be thinking too much about this really :) I’m 11 weeks with DC2. I’ve barely been thinking of the end result (a baby!) yet at all with Christmas with DS (he’s 3) and as I’m planning to ask what sex the baby is at 20 week scan there’s no point planning 50% of names really! However... I’m starting to think of all the girl names I don’t get to think of last time, and why not throw some out there for opinions?! So far I’m fond of

Clara
Alice
Lucy
Clarissa
Serena
And I really like the simplicity of Jane, you don’t get it much these days either!

I have no boys names yet 😂

Love Jane too. But all your names are great. Actually it looks like a list of my nieces!!

Clara - I don't like this.
Alice - sweet, not to my tastes but a perfectly nice name
Lucy - it's ok. Bit bland imo and fairly popular in my school.
Clarissa - no. Too fussy and flouncy. It could be nice as a middle name to honour said relative though.
Serena - I love this one.
Cecilia/Cecily - not for me
Hope - I like this a lot.
Sabine - this is lovely. Sabina?
Nina - great name
Marion - comes across as a bit middle aged to me.

And I loooove Jane, best one by a mile. It's so refreshing after the waves of Eva/Ava/Sophie/Milly/Molly etc names. Very refreshing, simple but beautiful.

As DH likes virtue names, would Amity work? Also I'd suggest Mary, Carmen, Hazel, Faith, Naomi.

I love the idea of Jane as a first name, it's so rare nowadays. My favourite middle names to go with it are Eleanor and Frances but I also like the suggestion of Charlotte. The only things I absolutely wouldn't pair it with are names that are kind of a cliché the other way round, with Jane as the middle name (Jane Sarah for example) as I think people would just misremember which way round they were supposed to be!

Of all those mentioned I like Lucy best. Rose is lovely and Serena is nice. Serena would've been a dreadful choice for my dd though as she's anything but!
It does sound like you want Jane though.
Cecily is nothing like your other ideas to my ear. It's so awkward!

We apparently really are on the same wavelength in regards to baby names... Grin

DD1 is Clarissa, Nathaniel and Cecilia are at the very top of our list for DC3... Oh, and both DDs have a second middle name (which happens to be a virtue name).

A discussion with DH has added Cecilia or Cecily. And Hope. He likes some of the Puritan style names that are virtues! Faith, Hope and Charity etc etc.

My friend is a Miina, short for Yasmiina (she is from Finland) so perhaps you could have a Yasmin or Jasmine and Mina for short, if you weren't a fan of it on its own or Yasmiina (or a Wilhelmina! Blush)

Sabine is lovely isn't it. It's on my imaginary/future baby list.

I like Marion. Although it makes me think of Maria, and I like that more. I like it said as “Mah-rye-ah” though. So would probably have to spell it Mariah.

I like all your names, but I think you're spot-on with Jane. It seems very fresh. I think the tide is turning and Victorian/Edwardian names like Clara and Alice will seem dated again.. Names like Jane, Barbara, Marion are the way to go and you'll be ahead of the curve.

My DH likes Rose. We have a surname beginning with Red..... so I’m torn between thinking a name that goes with that is awesome or a bit ridiculous! See also Ruby and Robin... both lovely but with the Red after it gets a bit comic book?

Mrs Nina is a nice name, also that reminds me that I’ve always liked Mina (like Mina Harker in Dracula!) as well! Sabine... that’s just lovely.

That’s why I’m really thinking of Jane, I think that it’s so rare now it sounds almost exotic 😂 although just my luck I’ll do it and suddenly in 4 years there will be a nursery class full of Jane’s!

Alice - love it
Lucy - think its a bit bland
Clarissa - a bit OTT and princessy for me
Serena - I think it's elegant and ages well. Not a favourite though.

Bring back Jane! I reckon it’s going to have a minor resurgence after Eleven in Stranger Things turned out to be Jane (made my year, that did).

horatio you’ve got my sons name at number 1 on your boys list there! So you are on my wavelength!

Emma is a lovely classic but I know so many personally. Not a reason against it really but it doesn’t call to me. Charlotte is nice and a family name. Clarissa is the name of a close deceased relative, love it for that and it sounds so nice.

Jane is lovely. It’s cute, simple, not too popular... :) I’d pair it with a longer, slightly frilly middle name.

Emma^^ is a nice suggestion seeing as you’re a Jane Austen fan!

Or how about Emmeline, shortened to Emma / Emmy? That’s what my dd would have been if I could have convinced dh to agree!
