I love it, was on my shortlist. And I love 'Clo' as a shortening/nickname too! It's sweet without being babyish.

That, plus 'spreads easily' would severely put me off using it for a human.

First thought was cloven hooves, then 'roll it overrrrr in the cloverrrr, roll it over in the clover and do it again' ! (Not even sure what that song is - is it the butter again?!)

I like it! It's a pretty and old fashioned name that has not become over-used. People use Flora as a name, so why not Clover?

I don’t like Clover... But I do love Flora.

(Similar names are imo Cleodie, Cora, Cara, Chloe, Daphne, Fleur, Daisy, Maple, Olive, Rowan and Wren.)

One of my good friends in primary school had a younger sister named Clover.

To this day, I still think it's an awful name for a person. Typically, your feelings on a name mellow if you know someone with it, but not this time. Grin

Clover sounds masculine and just not pretty imo.

At least Daisy is a girly sounding cows name.

Thanks all. The spread is the biggest issue in my mind, but Flora and Olive are reasonably popular so I don’t know how much it matters. And Daisy is the ultimate cow name surely and I know loads. But very helpful to see how it’s received (pretty badly!!) I’m not keen on Chloe or Clodagh, I’m afraid.

I have a daughter called Clover. Her name gets shortened to Cloves or Coco by her siblings. I do like the name and think it is a bit more original/interesting than other floral type names but it is a bit marmite! My other two have slightly wacky names so it works for us! Grin

No for all the reasons given. Mostly, Clover is definitely a name for a cow, even more so than Daisy!

I do get the appeal, and had it in my list. But the Marge association was just too strong for me. What about Cleo?

I thought the Clover in What Katy Did was a bit wet. Apart from her, I think of Clover the cow, and the spreadable butter. Not a great name imo.

I thought of Clover from What Katy Did first - so that's not a bad association. I didn't actually think of the Clover spread, but now it's been mentioned, that would put me off it as well. But mainly I'm not keen on the idea of naming a person after a tiny nondescript plant that is trodden on underfoot.
