Esme definitely I don't like the name Pippa.

MrsBungle · 27/12/2017 23:41

Esme by miles

Fluffbear · 27/12/2017 23:38

Thanks for all the comments, much appreciated. I didn't know Pippa meant that in some European countries! definitely off the cards now! Lol

I'm also struggling with that @keepingbees. I'd hate to constantly have to correct people, our surname is bad enough for that. Looks like we're back to the drawing board!!

Esme, but exactly what keepingbees said.

C0untDucku1a · 27/12/2017 21:51

I have an Esmé. But i also like pippa.

Scabbersley · 27/12/2017 21:49

Really dislike esme. Pippa is sweet but ruined by pippa Middleton

keepingbees · 27/12/2017 21:46

I love Esme and seriously considered it for my dd, however I was put off by the potential misspelling and pronunciation of it. The more I looked into the name the more conflicting things I read on whether it's pronounced Es-mee or Es-may, the various takes on spellings of it. Do love the name though!

MsHarry · 27/12/2017 21:45

Esme is sophisticated and Pippa is horsey/sloaney.

SoTotallyOverThis · 27/12/2017 21:44

Esme everytime.

Esteemed and loved.

Athaliah · 27/12/2017 21:43

Pippa is a bit frumpy.

Esme is very sweet.

Margaritaanyone89 · 27/12/2017 21:42

I have a soft spot for Pippa ☺️

Tessermee · 27/12/2017 21:41

Really don’t like Esme, such an old lady name, it sounds like Ethel or Edna to me.

Pippa on the other hand is lovely, such a friendly name and Pip is a super cute nickname.

MsHarry · 27/12/2017 21:39

Esme. Pippa is too doll like.

MuMuMuuuum · 27/12/2017 21:39

Esme, lovely name!

Cordroythisandthat · 27/12/2017 21:36

Pippa is a rude word in several European languages. On that basis Esme.

KarmaStar · 27/12/2017 21:34

Esme!💜

Luckingfovely · 27/12/2017 21:32

Esme!

17caterpillars1mouse · 27/12/2017 21:31

Pippa

I like both but know quite a few Esme's. Also prefer Esmee

Tubbyinthehottub · 27/12/2017 21:14

At first glance I thought the thread title said Peppa so.......

JennyHolzersGhost · 27/12/2017 21:13

People might choose to use those nicknames as names but it doesn’t make them names. It makes them unfortunate.

marmitecrumpets · 27/12/2017 21:13

Pippa

MikeUniformMike · 27/12/2017 21:11

Esmae is horrible.

MegAndSprog · 27/12/2017 21:08

Oh for goodness’ sake, of course Pippa is a name! Jack, Kate, Molly, Tessa... yes, they all derive from other names but they are all very much legitimate names in their own right at this point in time.

Both lovely OP, but I prefer Pippa over Esme. Be aware that Pippa has a pretty unsavoury meaning in a few foreign languages... google it!

Tinselistacky · 27/12/2017 21:03

I met an Esmae and thought it looked a lovely spelling!!

DramaAlpaca · 27/12/2017 21:03

I'm not keen on Pippa because it doesn't travel well as it apparently means offensive things in other languages.

I like Philippa very much though.

Esme is OK, a simple pretty name.
