I have a 10 year old Edie. I never thought about Edith at the time, as a birth certificate name.

I still love the name Edie. I just think it manages to be cool, pretty and a little harder edged and a bit less popular than other -ie names. Many of which I like too. I feel like I should love Edith too, but just can't quite. Perhaps because I'm more the Sedgwick sort, than Downton.

I almost went with Sylvie. I adore that. But can't stand Sylvia. It's quite fascinating how we respond so differently to names that are almost identical.

I love it, but I am biased (I have one) it’s surprisingly common, I know at least 5 others under 5. It’s not really an old lady name more a baby name!

It's nearly top 100. I know an 8 year old and about 3 1 year olds.

Edith and Ethel are both awful, frumpy names for modern babies.

In my opinion obviously.

I really dislike it. I think it's frumpy, ugly and awful to saddle a girl with.

Will never understand why it's so well loved.

I like Edith (or Edie) it was a name I associated with old people when I was a child but those types of names are popular again now.

Really? The Edith I know is 6 and the year she was named it was pretty low down the list of names.

You say that mikeuniformmike, but I have been reading "oh it's so popular" on MN for years, those popular ones would be 11-12-13 by now.

The Edith I know well is 16 Grin

It is a name that has become back into fashion fairly recently, so they wouldn't be at secondary school yet.
Cf. 30 years ago Emily and Chloe were still fairly unusual but there are loads of them around now.

Love it. I know a brilliant one. It's a good, strong name (see the poster above me thinks the same!) with loads of character. I like girls names that don't end with an 'ee' sound for some reason so the 'th' is a winner for me.

I love Edith.

People often say on MN that it's v popular but I know barely any. Not a single one ever in the secondary school where I have taught for six years.

Anyway it's great, strong, unusual yet known, pretty shortening, good meaning, loads of ace precedents (Edward confessor and Harold 's wives, Edith Wharton, Edith Piaf...)
