Baby girl name Nancy

Everyone hates the name but I love it, what do you all think?

I love it, but hate the phrase Nancy- boy, unfortunately used by jkr. Otherwise I'd hope children today would never have heard it.

Isn't David Cameron's daughter called Nancy?
Also makes me think of Nancy Reagan (showing my age here)

Another consideration is your surname - does it sound OK with that?
For us, all names ending in an "ee" sound like Sophie, Lucy, Emily etc were out because with our surname it sounded too sing-song.

in my part of the country its a derogatory name given to miserable ladies

"Negative Nancy"

Or to someone seen as being gay or wimpy

"Nancy Pansy"

I'd never use that name tbh

My garn was a Nancy at some point I her life, although she was also Annie and Anne, confusingly. I don't think she liked Nancy.

I think it will become fashionable again. Those 30s names are.

In case it puts you off, pretty sure David Cameron has a Nancy. To me it's a bit metropolitan chattering classes these days...

But I did love Nancy Drew!

I'm in my 50s & think of it as old fashioned.

Nancy Mitford, Nancy Cunard, Nancy Astor.

Hidng - Nancy is a pet form of Anne, even though it's longer. It went something like - "mine Anne" > Nan > Nancy.
I too prefer Nancy to Sienna.

Congratulations! But it's sex. Not gender. Or at least I hope not.

Gender is all about old-fashioned sex-role stereotypes. I haven't watched Stranger Things but Nancy Blackett's a brilliant example of a girl who refuses to accept the constraints of "gender"& just gets on with being herself. I think it's a great name.

I immediately thought of Stranger Things. I think it's a nice name but I expect there will be a surge in babies called Nancy because of ST so be prepared that it probably won't be as unusual or unique by the time baby flying arrives.

Love it. It has a retro classic feel to it. Not that keen on Sienna however, I wouldn't care what others think about the name. I had mixed reactions to my daughters name but now everyone compliments her on it! Go with what you like!

I love it! It's on my list but I also expect I'll get the same sort of reaction.

We're a family of 'unusual' names so something like Nancy will be called 'old-fashioned'. I also love Ada and no doubt that will meet the same fate too.

What I'd say is - it's your baby, I know it's not nice but if you love it then go for it. There's plenty out there (and here on this very thread) that love it too.

Is it short for anything though? In my mind it’s short for something like Peggy is short for Margaret.

It's a family name for us. Makes me think of rather lairy middle aged aunties. Our Nance. Go for it if you like it.

The best bet is during pregnancy is to tell anyone who asks that if it a boy its going to be called Aloysius and if its a girl its going to be Dremelda or any other ghastly name you can think of.

Then when the baby is born and it has the lovely name Nancy or Sienna everyone is happy.
