Baby girl name Nancy

Everyone hates the name but I love it, what do you all think?

I'd pronounce it Nancy with a short a sound (North) , but I think it may also get pronounced with a long a sound so Narncy

I doubt it. It's one of those names that's pronounced more or less the same by all English accents. For example it's Nancy with a short A in Oliver. And they're cockernees.

We both liked it but scratched it off our list when we realised David Cameron had used it! We can’t stand the man and it weirdly tainted the name for us.

Love the name Nancy but honestly don't tell anyone what you're considering. If you say dd has been born and her name is Nancy everyone will get used to it and it won't be an issue. Well anyone with manners will.

Love it! I had the same comments when i told my DM the name i wanted to call my DD2. Knew i was having a girl and loved the name but in the end didn't use it😔.
Go for it!

My grandma's name, lovely and classic. It's not different around here, loads of them in dd' scchool.

Nancy is definitely said with a short A here in southern England. I can see why there might be confusion, as most words with the "ance" sound in them get a long A in the southeast. Nancy is an exception to the rule, probably because it comes from from Anne originally, which is always a short A.

Your baby- your choice to choose any name, which you like.I knew name of my dd, years before she was born and never really cared what other people think...

I ADORE this name. And I know a 6yo Nancy who is very sweet. It’s a lovely, classic name. Good luck with the pregnancy, and maybe keep the name under wraps from now on Grin

I love Nancy although DH thinks it's an 'old lady name'- I think of Nancy Drew.

Don’t mind the name but think it’s great for many reasons, not so easy to shorten, only ever seen it spelt one way so the child won’t spend her whole life having to spell her name and it’s easy to pronounce

Yeah - or Chelsea, or Paris . . . . or . . . . Sienna (Siena is an Italian city - different spelling, same pronunciation)

It really doesn't matter what others think of your choice of name but I LOVE Nancy and know a couple of little ones and a few mid-thirties women with the name.

I love Nancy.

I have an Aunt Nancy who is just the coolest EVER. I also watch Stranger Things and liked it on a younger girl when I heard it. I think it's great.

I've been OBSESSED with the name Nancy since Stranger Things, but can't use it because it would clash horrifically with our surname.

If you love it, use it, ignore everyone else.

Yes, David Cameron's older daughter is Nancy.

I think it's absolutely fine. Classic name; not vastly trendy but not totally outré.

I like Nancy.

The only reason I wouldn't use it is because I live in France and Nancy is a town here so it would be like calling your kid Nottingham or something, lol.

I actually think it would be easy as it's consistently pronounced Nancy with a short vowel I believe.

DD3 would definitely be Nancy!

I wonder how many pp who LOVE Nancy would actually use it when it came to the crunch?
I think it's a hard name to carry through life, though quite pleasant.

It’s not a name I like personally, but there’s nothing wrong with it.

It’s been rising a lot in popularity over recent years as well, so there’s plenty of other parents out there who love the name.
