Heart vs head choices (2 of each!)

What the title says - DH and I have agreed on two possibilities for a girl name, and two for a boy, but I'm torn in each between my "heart" and my "head" choice. Thoughts?

Lucian
Tristan

Petra
Lucia

Really dislike how you've said Lucia and Lucian are pronounced. They don't sound particularly nice and are a mouthful. As another poster has said, a Lucian could be bullied for his feminine sounding name.

grasspigeons · 14/12/2017 20:38

I prefer Petra and Tristan as I know how to pronounce them both

CatInTheChristmasTree · 14/12/2017 20:37

Tristan and Petra.

MikeUniformMike · 14/12/2017 20:31

Are there any other names you like?
When baby backformore turns up you might want to pick something else.

Happpydays · 14/12/2017 20:11

I'd go with what the heart says! You can speculate etc but you never know beforehand exactly how the 'head' issues are going to play out anyway.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 14/12/2017 20:09

I would pronounce Lucien Lucy-un

I prefer it to Tristan

I prefer Lucia to Petra but they are both nice nice names. I prefer it pronounced Loo-chee-a

Antonia87 · 14/12/2017 20:08

I knew a boy called Lucian growing up. He was nicknamed 'Lucy' by all the boys and really hated his name :-(.

MikeUniformMike · 14/12/2017 20:05

Tristan and Petra. Both pleasant and uncomplicated names.

Lucian and Lucia are both nice but will cause pronunciation issues and Lucian will be misspelt as Lucien.

AdaColeman · 14/12/2017 19:58

Tristan and Lucia.

BertrandRussell · 14/12/2017 19:53

Ah. Definitely not Lucia then!

And I prefer Lu-see-an as in Freud.

RestingGrinchFace · 14/12/2017 19:52

I lthink jevthe slubd if Tristan but lucian makes he think if lucian frued which is nice if you are into art.

I also like both Petra and Lucia (although I always thought it was Loo-Chee-a, and lucian I thought was with a see rather than sh sound).

backformore · 14/12/2017 19:50

LOO-shan I think is fairly standard (as in Lucian Freud), but LOO-sha a little less common.

Petra is a head choice (for historic reasons and resonances with a family member's name), whereas Lucia sounds a bit prettier to my ear. Other head choice is Tristan (it would "fit"/be an easy sell where we live, whereas Lucian perhaps sounds a bit more strident??)

Lucian and Petra

MotherCupboard · 14/12/2017 19:48

Tristan and lucia for me.

lljkk · 14/12/2017 19:45

I never heard the Lu-shan pronunciation before.
i have one of those but don't like the others. Grin
Maybe tell us which ones speak to your head and why not also your heart.

backformore · 14/12/2017 19:42

LOO-shan

LOO-sha or Loo-see-ah (haven't decided)

BertrandRussell · 14/12/2017 19:40

Depends on how you pronounce Lucia. And Lucian.

Patal · 14/12/2017 19:36

Petra and Tristan imo

ElspethFlashman · 14/12/2017 19:23

Petra is lovely.

Prefer Lucian to Tristan.

Enidblyton1 · 14/12/2017 19:22

They are all nice names - I wouldn't know which was heart or head. None of them are totally outlandish or particularly commonplace. Just pick the ones you like the best.
