After going back and forth for ages with DH as we have totally opposite tastes in names this is our shortlist’s for DC2. We’re not finding out the gender. What do you think? Please dont be too brutal 🙈

Girls
Nancy
Betsy
Hallie
Lila
Xanthe
Effie

Boys
Spencer

Love Xanthe

I don't really like any of the boys names - sorry. I'm not keen on names that are usually surnames. Freddie is too popular to me (I know about 8 under 2).

Jedigirl29 · 05/01/2018 11:15

Xanthe, Effie , Freddie and Spencer are my favourites out of the list.

💜💙💜💙💜💙

Frankie2015 · 28/12/2017 20:58

Nothing as yet as due very early May time. I think it will be Albert (Bertie) for a boy. Nearly everyone on here said Rory and I love it and even though it was on our list my DH has now changed his mind and doesn’t like it!!! 😡 I’m sure that’s not allowed! Spencer or fletcher are his choices but we already have a very traditional name for our DS1.

Girls down to
Elizabeth -Betsy
Daphne
Dorothy- Dotty

Although I do still love Xanthe 😩 DH hates it

I’m sure naming our son wasn’t this hard we’d agreed really early on if it was a boy what he would be called.

What did you go for?

Wintershere37 · 28/12/2017 14:33

I love Betsy, Nancy and the whole boys list! Great names!

hellsbells552 · 28/12/2017 14:02

Nancy - love
Betsy - love but would put Elizabeth on the birth certificate
Hallie - also prefer Hayley
Lila - meh
Xanthe - love, or how about Ianthe for an alternative?
Effie - love but would put Elizabeth on the birth certificate!

Spencer - like
Freddie - meh
Fletcher - meh
Rory - meh
Stanley - love

Liloslilo · 28/12/2017 11:22

Really don’t like Dorothy or Daphne but love Xanthe and Effie from your original list... they sound like cool girl names with a bit of attitude 😊 I also like Nancy because of Stranger Things.
None of your boys names stand out but Stanley is ok. I know a dog called Fletcher so that puts me off

Viviennemary · 28/12/2017 09:54

I think I like Nancy best of the girls names and Rory for boys. Ones I don't like are Hallie and Stanley. But certainly none of them are awful or would be an embarrassment. Like some of the names I've seen on here.

ImAMarshmellow · 28/12/2017 09:48

Xanthe - reminds me of a type of gum used in food..
Betsy - I like this the most out of the girls

Fletcher - I do really like this for a boy.
Freddie - also quite like this, although not sure if Freddie is one of those names that works well for a small child but doesn't translate well into a middle aged man? IYKWIM. Don't think I really like the 'formal' versions of Freddie either.

The rest? Just not that keen on them.

Handy83 · 28/12/2017 09:44

Love Nancy. I suggested that to my partner. We are the same. Not finding out the sex but have different tastes in names. I like the more traditional names but he likes out there names like icini (this may not be how it's spelt and that's my major issue with it). Doesn't help that every name i suggest his nephew has a friend with that name

Opheliasgoldenwine · 25/12/2017 22:54

I much prefer Dorothy Smile

Amy106 · 25/12/2017 20:51

Hallie and Spencer

FartnissEverbeans · 24/12/2017 10:09

Xanthe is awesome. I like your girls' names but I think Hallie is too tied to Halle Berry. Lila is great but there are a lot of Lilys/Lolas etc around at the moment.

I know a gorgeous little Fletcher so that, along with Rory, is ny favourite. I also think Stanley is quite cool - I taught a really clever, slightly naughty teenage Stanley and it suited him down to the ground!

Frankie2015 · 24/12/2017 08:08

Oh thanks @mathanxiety I don’t like Albi either but never thought of Bertie as a NN if he was given one! I love that!!

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 24/12/2017 05:24

I like Albert but can't stand Albie as a nn. Prefer Bertie.

mathanxiety · 24/12/2017 05:23

I love Daphne.

Dorothy sounds a bit dowdy to me.

yikesanotherbooboo · 23/12/2017 22:18

I love Dorothy/ Dot
Daphne also pretty and a plant name if that is your thing.... it is rather of the moment , like Olive, so if that is an issue to you..
Not mad on Albert

GrrrHotdogs · 23/12/2017 22:15

I LOVE Daphne

Frankie2015 · 23/12/2017 22:12

Hi everyone thank you so much for all your replies! We were pretty set on after much debate Nancy but someone in my family has just announced that’s what they’re calling their newborn! 😩

What do you think of these
Dorothy (Dotty)
Daphne

I still love Xanthe but cant convince DH

Also another boys name we’ve added to the list is Albert?

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 15/12/2017 20:58

My favourites are Rory and Nancy.

mathanxiety · 15/12/2017 20:58

Don't like Effie - sounds like swearing.

Don't like Spencer or Fletcher - shares a syllable with phlegm.

The rest I like.

islandblone · 15/12/2017 20:16

Nancy and Rory from your list.

Also:
Nora
Violet
Rosa
Stella
Edith

Take10 · 15/12/2017 18:37

Rory is my favourite boy name from your list and Hallie my favourite girl name from your list

SleepingStandingUp · 14/12/2017 01:44

Hallie
Xanthe
Effie
In that order

Rory
Fletcher
In that order

Opheliasgoldenwine · 14/12/2017 01:17

I think you're missing Balonz off your boys' name list Grin
