Avery????

I'm only 16 weeks pregnant so could well change my mind but me and dp do not agree on names at all and we had a hell of a time naming ds1. Amazingly we both agree that we love the name Avery and would use it regardless of babies sex. Is this a silly idea? It's not a name I think I've ever heard anyone name their child and I'm worried about bullying.
Also recommendations of similar names would be most welcome!

Another one whose mind goes straight to ‘aviary’.

I don't think it is that linked to Aviary. Don't you say Aviary 'A-vee-uh-ree' rather than 'Ava-ree'. No more similar than names that rhyme or assonate (is that a word??) really.

Also don't see why the brand of scales is a probem (agree that's pretty niche btw!) People still call their children Flora and Zara pretty regularly (sure there are more brand name names too).

Thank you everyone for your views.
I was slightly worried about the Aviary/Avery confusion as my mum has a phobia of birds. As in she once ran and left my sister as a baby in the middle of Trafalgar Square because a group of pidgins tried to steal her biscuit... May now have to consider the mental effect on my mum Grin
At least I still have a lot of time left to think about it!

This being a brand that is sometimes found in offices and postrooms makes your 'It's the brand name of letter-weighing scales''concerns a little niche.

I think you'll find that offices and postrooms aren't particularly niche.
It's a well-known brand. Just because you haven't heard of it doesn't make it niche.

Google avery and see what comes up.

Not really. Avery is the make. There are Avery labels too. Quite common in office or postroom environments.

I love it for a girl. Not sure I'd use it for a boy but there's no reason why not.

It's been top 10 in the US for quite a long time but I've never met one in the UK.
