I'm only 16 weeks pregnant so could well change my mind but me and dp do not agree on names at all and we had a hell of a time naming ds1. Amazingly we both agree that we love the name Avery and would use it regardless of babies sex. Is this a silly idea? It's not a name I think I've ever heard anyone name their child and I'm worried about bullying.
Also recommendations of similar names would be most welcome!

My nephew - UK - is an Avery. It suits him to the T - we all love it - he's wild, free, totally suits it. I think I recall the initial 'aviary' connection but not since, it's his name .. and as someone pointed out it's actually pronounced differently. We do love unusual boys names though - I've got a Ridley which I love equally.

I pass their factory every time I go to Brum.

Like it! Unisex name derived from the same stem as 'Alfred' - meaning is wise or wisdom. Old English/French basis (& character in TV series Nashville) Cool, Not niche or likely to date.

Making A Murderer springs to mind for me. Steven Avery is the name of the accused man in that.

I would assume female but im aware its unisex. I'm.not a fan of it for either sex to be honest though its just not my style of name

I think of aviary or Jackson Avery of Grey's Anatomy, where it is a surname. I wouldn't use it as a first name.

There is an American actress named Angie Harmon who has three daughters named Avery, Finley and Emery. I’ve always loved those 3 unisex names (especially for girls) but would use them for either sex.
Their names are Avery Grace, Emery Hope and Finley Faith! I love a unisex name with a really feminine middle name or for a boy I would use the name with a really traditional male name e.g Avery Douglas, Avery Robert! love the name :) x

I like it. It reminds me of Jackson Avery from Grey's Anatomy, who is an awesome (fictional) character, and strikingly handsome as far as I'm concerned Grin

It makes me think of stationery! If anyone I know called a child that I'd be expecting their next one to be Lyreco.
