What was the most popular first name when you were at school?

In primary school in my class there was 3 Nathans and 2 Ryan's

Early 60s . You could literally name the street (or Avenue !) the children lived in by their first names !

Born early 90s... Lots of Emmas, Sarahs, Hannahs, and Rebeccas. Boys were Matt, Ben, Chris, Ryan, etc.

At my last workplace there were so many Matts, most of them in their late 20s and a couple in their 30s. I’m sure I had a few meetings where we had at least 3 Matts at the table. So confusing. “Yeah, so if you could send that over to Matt P, he will look at the initial designs and then Matt S can start the implementation. Matt C can help if you need anything”

There were a lot of boys called Craig, Jack, Michael, Lewis or Chris.

For girls it was Anna, Hannah, Eilidh, Catherine and Sophie that were the most popular!

Just out of interest, can I ask why so many people are putting an apostrophe before the "s" in some of the names?

For example, the OP put Nathans and Ryan's. It often puzzles me why people think they need to do this, so maybe one or two people who've done this could explain it please?

Started primary 1987.
Boys: ben, chris, tom ( or longer versions) - 3 of each in my class.
Girls: Rebecca, sarah, Laura, jenny

Some friends have a boy called Andrew. He's 10. I like it but when they said what his name was I did think it wasn't a baby name. It's a lot better than a lot of the names that are popular now.

When I was at school, Ann was a very popular middle name, and Margaret was quite popular.
David and Thomas were popular as middle names for boys.
When DCs were at school, Louise seemed to be the middle name of most of the girls.

Lizzie (think both were Elizabeth officially) and Billy are the only repeated ones I can remember in my Primary school.
Secondary school Mohammed in it's various spelling's but most went by their middle name.
