Bizarre spellings of names

Anyone seen or heard a name which has a ridiculous spelling? I was served in a shop today by a Georja.

Looked very wrong

My son is called Jack and when he was newborn we had to take him to hospital for a scan and the woman at reception asked me how we had spelt it ? I looked confused ... I said well obviously Jack and she said oh well we've had a few called Jac and Jak I thought she was kidding .

I don't get it . Although I have a name that is usually short for a longer name but it's a name in its own right and the amount of people who ask is it short for ... And then miss the E anyway . It's so annoying !
And my daughter is one of the normal spelt names in this thread and every single person looks worried when they go to spell her name ...
How hard can it be !

I know an Eyvie pronounced Evie - i would have definitely thought Ivy not Evie.

Also come across Mathilder (Matilda), Waneta (Juanita) and Halley (Hayley).

Chloe pronounced shlow is dire. Poor kid.

Jaxon, Abigayle, and Shevaunne have all made their way to rural Devon. At least they are phonetic.

I know several Debras. It was a fashionable variant in the 70s. An adult Deborah recently told me her name is spelt 'the posh way'.

Bloke at work names his DD Jorja. I have to bite my tongue whenever he mentions her name. Why would you change a nice name like Georgie to Jorja Blush

A friend of mine knew of a couple who called their baby "shlow" but spelt Chloe

Neither did I, we only have Niamh’s round here. But I guess it is the same sound as in Siobhan

Blush I'm not in Ireland, though am of Irish decent (my Mum was from Wexford). Apologies - I didn't know Niambh was an accepted spelling. You learn something new every day Smile

goingrogue There are definitely lots of Niambhs where I live including the daughter of one of my closest friends. There could be a regional issue, where in Ireland are you?

It's like Clare or Claire, Anne or Ann. Both accepted spellings with 'extra' letters added to aid pronunciation

It’s not an Irish spelling of any name. It’s a cringey fuck up of an Irish name that the poor child is now stuck with.

I once did temp for a class where a lot of their names were seemingly normal but spelt wrong!
