Thoughts on this name? DH not a fan but I LOVE it! It sounds strong and feminine. I like the Scandinavian connection to. Interested to hear other thoughts on the name, and if you know any Astrid’s, what her siblings are called?

DH annoyingly thinks the name sounds like ‘asteroid’ Hmm

I'm afraid I don't like it. There was a girl locally called Astrid. I once heard her being called by her father - "Ass! Come here, Ass". It sounded awful.

I have a similar "harsh" sounding Germanic name (recommended by others on this thread) and I always wanted to have a more beautiful name. So I'm a bit biased.

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 03/12/2017 16:55

It's lovely but shooting up the charts at the moment if that would bother you.

MadMags · 03/12/2017 16:51

I see I was beaten to the Ass Turd reference from The Office! Grin

I loved it but that did put me off!

donkey86 · 03/12/2017 16:48

I love it. It was on my list but DH vetoed it.

Itchytights · 03/12/2017 16:47

Not for me. Too harsh.

midsomermurderess · 03/12/2017 16:44

I like it too. It’s strong-sounding, not twee and frilly and I’m guessing, if it’s important, not widely used.

HettyB · 03/12/2017 16:05

I love it. We liked it for DD but it doesn’t work with our surname.

SoftSheen · 03/12/2017 14:34

Astrid is a nice, strong-sounding girl's name. I know of two Astrids. One is English and has a sister called Eva, and the other is Danish and has a brother called Frederik.

Eolian · 03/12/2017 14:31

Beautiful. One of my very favourite names. I've met a few Astrids and they've all been pretty cool.

ByThePowerOfRa · 03/12/2017 14:29

I do like it, but I can’t help hearing Ass-turd when I say it out loud. I know an adult Astrid though and she’s a nice woman. Don’t think of her as an ass-turd!

BabloHoney · 03/12/2017 13:21

Gorgeous! I love names that aren’t too common but aren’t too “out there”

Debby08 · 03/12/2017 13:02

I think it's unique and a good choice for a name. Very uncommon but rarely beautiful if ever there is such a word. Don't mind your dh as he'll get use to it eventually. :)

Tantpoke · 03/12/2017 12:58

It's a lovely name

AfterSchoolWorry · 03/12/2017 12:44

Love it, it's a very nice sound.

MikeUniformMike · 03/12/2017 12:31

Love it.

Kenworthington · 03/12/2017 10:34

Love it!

MomToWedThorFriday · 03/12/2017 10:32

Astrid is beautiful 💕 I know one whose sibling is Matilda.

daisypond · 03/12/2017 10:19

I don't like it. It feels like a "dress up and pretend we're Scandinavian" name - unless you are Scandinavian, of course - or a Disney name.

bluebird3 · 03/12/2017 09:08

I can't think of it without thinking of The Office -US version. Someone names their baby that and everyone gets confused and calls her As-tird so it sounds like Ass-turd. Ruined the name for me.

PeasAndHarmony · 03/12/2017 09:05

I think Annaliese would be a great name for a sister too!

PeasAndHarmony · 03/12/2017 09:04

It's a great name! I'm huge fan of Scandinavian names.

userabcname · 03/12/2017 08:55

I like it. I know a little Astrid and her sister is Antigone.

ChocolateCrunch · 03/12/2017 08:45

Lovely name. Don't know any, but would imagine they'd have siblings called Jakob, Anders, Inge or Annika

BrizzleDrizzle · 03/12/2017 08:43

I love it.

Chocolatecake12 · 03/12/2017 08:42

I know a beautiful Astrid
Sister called Imogen. Both lovely girls.
