Victorian Romany names!

Just came across this blog and the names are amazing!! Especially like Anselo, Starlina, Greenleaf, Marbeleni, Northalion.

Also like the Victorian gothic names - Arphaxad, Clarimond, Vesperina.

Any stand out for you?

GU24 no, Midlands in the 90s.

My youngest's name is a variation of a Victoria gothic name. I wish I had named him that name but it ends in s and his middle name and surname start with s so I thought it would be a bit hissy! He's known by a shortened version anyway so it wouldn't have mattered. Name regret!

I've obviously got a bit of a taste for Victorian gothic as I love loads of the names on the list.

DS is at school with a long lost rarity! He is from Japan so maybe it's a coincidence.

AndNone- you can tell you haven't read the Chalet School books if you've never come across Richenda!

I knew a girl at school called Richenda. I always thought it was a made up name but apparently not!

One of my great great grandmothers was a Romany gipsy called Hephzibar.

Haha I did wonder if Balonz was on one of the lists.

They do have a lovely quasi-fantasy feel to them don't they!

I also like Studivares (Stud for short) and Stari.

Fluenzi and Froniga

Fluenzi sounds a little infectious to me - and Froniga is too close to Frogmella, Grin but some of the others are rather lovely.

Ooh they are great. I know an older gypsy called Shadrach, and he’s from Worcestershire - I wonder if he’s related?

(And I know a few names on the Gothic list too, maybe they are coming back in?)

This is really interesting. I know a few Romany children with unusual names not dissimilar to some of these.
