I love it but was never brave enough to use it

bayseyan · 01/12/2017 04:38

Classic, timeless, nice meaning, strong name, good on kids and adults. I like it a lot.

sureitsgrand · 01/12/2017 04:26

I adore the name Gabriel, but my husband (and a few others) have said at school people would call him 'gay'.

Older people seem to like it, my MIL hates every name but thinks it's fine.

I love it and really wish I could use it, but having been bullied as a kid myself I'd hate to add to the possibility for anyone?

DiegoMadonna · 30/11/2017 12:02

Do men not like it because of a knee-jerk reaction to the 'Gay' thing I wonder?!

I don't think it's that. It's just - as a PP said - it's kind of an "unmasculine" name.

I have to agree too. I don't like it.

daisypond · 30/11/2017 11:16

Really like it.

Minty82 · 30/11/2017 10:55

Gorgeous name. I also didn't get far with my DH on this one. Do men not like it because of a knee-jerk reaction to the 'Gay' thing I wonder?!

ShoeJunkie · 30/11/2017 10:54

It was on our list for DS2

pipilangstrumpf · 30/11/2017 10:50

I'm not keen, sorry.

SuperBeagle · 30/11/2017 06:45

Don't like it.

Too religious, wet sounding, and I think Gabe sounds ape-like.

Blodplod · 30/11/2017 05:45

I love it. My friends have one. He’s a gabby though. Really suits him

Rhynswynd · 30/11/2017 05:35

I hate it.
My DH wanted it for a boy but I flat out refused. Our surname is a small rodent so DS would get called Gay Mouse (or similar) by me never mind evil children at school.

Skittlesandbeer · 30/11/2017 05:01

Sigh. Love that name. Knew I was only ever having one baby, and had a girl name I preferred (because our other culture would have a hard time with a girl Gabriel).

For the first few seconds I thought I actually had a Gabriel, then the midwives corrected me!

Wonderful name. Traditional yet modern. I don’t mind the other boy angel name either- Raphael.

Horseshoe1 · 30/11/2017 02:48

Love it

CakesRUs · 30/11/2017 02:30

Love it.

Movablefeast · 30/11/2017 02:30

And Far from the Madding Crowd has to be the Alan Bates and Julie Christie version!

Alan Bates is gorgeous.

Movablefeast · 30/11/2017 02:27

Also up to 3 you can call him Gabey the Baby interspersed with Gabe the Babe Grin

40andFat · 29/11/2017 22:03

My middle son is called Gabriel it’s a wonderful name everyone compliments him on it. We do call him Gabe for short and believe it or not there are 2 if them in his class at school.

Justgivemesomepeace · 29/11/2017 20:15

My favourite boys name. My dp wouldn't have it but I adore it.

lal17 · 29/11/2017 20:15

Same as statue. Sigh.

I love it. Go for it OP

AlmostChristmas · 29/11/2017 20:14

Remember it can be pronounced 2 ways-

Gay-bree-el

Gab-ree-el (I always thought this was the way Gabrielle was prounounced but seems to popular male form on the continent)

greatpotential · 29/11/2017 20:13

Love Gabriel. A beautiful non macho name. And great to have Gabe as NN option - for times when he wants to be less elegant!

Agustarella · 29/11/2017 19:51

Nice, classy.

Iwantallthesleep · 29/11/2017 19:50

Really like it , and love Gabe :)

Sheitgeist · 29/11/2017 19:47

I love it.

Movablefeast · 29/11/2017 18:31

We have an 11 yr old Gabriel who usually goes by Gabe but likes both. His dad suggested it and I love it still. He gets lots of compliments on his name. I also love the character Gabriel Oak in "Far from the Madding Crowd". Our son is very tall - in the 98th percentile for his age and is very calm and mellow but also quirky and artistic so in my eyes it is a masculine name but not afraid to break boundaries and experiment. It's a classic.
