Looking for a modern twist on the boys name Gilbert!

What do you think of the name Gilby/Gilbie?

Personally I feel Gilby/Gilbie are just not right for DS. But Gilbert alone sound fine. I think a nickname would come eventually and should not be worried about it too much at the moment.

Nicknames evolve naturally. I'd call your ds Gilbert and not worry about nicknames.

Names don't need a nickname btw. DD's names is 3 syllables and rarely if ever gets shortened.

Gilbert lends its way to many a Nn most will come to naturally when you see him but you can use Bert/Bertie, Gill, Gilby, Giles

I think it's twee but I think all -ie names are twee. It would be ok as a cute nickname for a baby or toddler.

Gilbert isn't great but gilby is horrendous.

Not keen on it but if you really want to use it I'd put the full version on the birth certificate so he has the option of using it or maybe Bert/Bertie as a nn when he gets older, Gilby sounds quite babyish to me.
