Which do you prefer? Surname starts and ends in N and has a ssss sound in the middle.

I like Sophie more!

derektheladyhamster · 26/11/2017 08:42

I have 3 teen Phoebes (out of a house of 78) at my school, and there are 2 Sophie's. So if you're in the south east both names, along with Olivia, are by far the most popular, in my experience.

DeathMetalMum · 26/11/2017 08:39

I like both we have a Phoebe and currently the only one in her school. Sophie would have been a possibility for us if dc didn't have a very close cousin called Sophie. I don't know many children with either name actually, one other Phoebe that I can recall.

Both are lovely names I'd probably wait until baby arrived and decide then.

HaHaHmm · 26/11/2017 08:35

Sophie is a bit like Jack - it was consistently in the top 5 from 1996 for fifteen years and only dropped out of the top ten in 2015. Consequently there are a LOT of them around, aged all the way up to their twenties, plus all of the Sophias.

lightcola · 26/11/2017 08:24

I love them both (helpful)

17caterpillars1mouse · 26/11/2017 08:10

I love Phoebe

squoosh · 25/11/2017 21:30

I much prefer Phoebe. I know so many Sophies. SO many Sophies.

WhereTheFuckIsWonderWoman · 25/11/2017 21:26

My Sophie was almost a Phoebe so I love both. And to all those saying how popular Sophie is as a name, I know more Phoebes than Sophies (and I'm a primary teacher)

Having said that, PIN is probably safer than SIN 😬

Munxx · 25/11/2017 20:16

Sophie. It is a beautiful name. Where I work not all classes have a Sophie and there is never more than one in a class if there is.

Sophie being blah is a bit rude though.... After

Agustarella · 25/11/2017 20:10

Phoebe. More classical.

chartreuse · 25/11/2017 19:12

Very few people use their middle name when using their initial trough so I wouldn't let that put you off

dowotmakesuhappy · 25/11/2017 18:55

Thank you do much! Her middle nane will be Irene so her initials will be PIN or SIN though.

I have a dd named Phoebe I’m still in love with the name and she’s 13 now. I think it’s such a pretty name. I’m sure I read somewhere that the meaning for it was sunshine which is just perfect for my dd
Sophie is very popular atm so I wouldn’t go with it just for that reason but also a lovely name

melissasummerfield · 25/11/2017 18:49

Phoebe!!

GentlyGentlyOhDear · 25/11/2017 18:48

We couldn't decide between Phoebe and Sophie, but when DD was born she looked more like a Phoebe.
Sophie is top of my girls' list if we have another

Pemba · 25/11/2017 18:44

I like Phoebe, but Sophie is gorgeous, prefer it to the currently more popular Sophia. There are load of them, though ...

Smoliver · 25/11/2017 18:40

haha my name is Sophie and one of my favourite names is Phoebe! Grin

either one would be good Smile

minipie · 25/11/2017 18:08

Phoebe. More distinctive.

rachrach2 · 25/11/2017 18:04

Sophie, beautiful name! I know it’s popular but I don’t know many (2 under 10s).

BewareOfDragons · 25/11/2017 18:03

Phoebe

NannyR · 25/11/2017 18:02

Both are really lovely names. In my area, Sophie is not very popular at all - I only know of one aged about ten. Sophia on the other hand is a very commonly used name.

AfterSchoolWorry · 25/11/2017 17:58

Phoebe, Sophie is blah.

chartreuse · 25/11/2017 17:54

Phoebe, beautiful name

AnyaMoondial · 25/11/2017 17:45

Phoebe

Mollie85 · 25/11/2017 17:32

I think Sophie has been a popular girls name for at least 40 years now... I’m (almost) 37 and I know at least six my age all the way down to reception class.
I never knew a nice one when I was a kid, but all the younger ones I’ve met seem lovely Smile

That said, Phoebe is my most favourite girl’s name ever: “bright shining”... Grin

Good luck Flowers
