Dorothea or Juniper?

So I was pretty settled on Juniper for my 3rd DD but then I saw a thread the other day about the name Dorothea and now can't stop thinking about it. What's your favourite?

Juniper just doesn’t sound like a name to me. Dorothea is much nicer.

That quote always makes me cry, MakeMineAStrongOne! And I agree, one of the all time greatest books, and characters, which always makes me a bit wistful that I don't like the name more - it just feels a bit too heavyweight. Thea's beautiful though. And it beats Juniper, which is quite fun but has none of the same resonance, and I'm not convinced really works as a name.

Dorothea is a bit long and awkward, but I do like Thea.
I like Juniper, and it is a name, despite what a PP said above!

Not keen on either but if pushed I would go for Dorothea and shorten to Thea.

Dorothea! Definitely. Beautiful classic name that sounds great in most languages.

Juniper? Sounds like an ingredient or a horse and not at all feminine, sorry.

Dorothea is a beautiful, classy name that will not become dated.

Juniper is OK but a bit faddy I think. I would happily name a cat Juniper, but not a child who will likely live for 80 years or more.

Dorothea. Lovely name and great literary inspiration. I was desperate to namemy DD Dorothea but DH was having none of it. He regrets that now.

Two of my three favourite names I love Dorothea: Dolly, Dot, The a so many lovely nicknames same for Juniper: June, Peru, Juno my third favourite is Ottiline Linnie, tilly, otty. I've devotees more time to baby names since I've been menopausal than I should

I know I've mentioned the gin connection upthread already but every time i see this in my TIO I'm surprised mn'ers haven't boosted Juniper to the top 100 names already long ago
