What are your thoughts on Emmett? Do you know any?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Back to the Future was my first thought. Not in a bad way.

It's a nice name, and unusual, I've never met any.

midsomermurderess · 17/11/2017 16:33

I like it but it does also make me think of the put-upon chap in Hyacinth Bucket.

pomegranita · 17/11/2017 16:29

It means “ant” in Cornish dialect and is used there in a derogatory fashion to describe tourists (grockle is a better known Devon equivalent).
Its also the name of a 14 year old African-American boy, Emmett Till, who was lynched in Mississippi in 1955 (as per the Bob Dylan song).
But the only Emmetts I have known in person have been Irish.

PandaCat · 17/11/2017 16:19

I've never known one, sounds nice though.

Mulch · 17/11/2017 15:40

I love it but oh vetoed it

reservoircats · 17/11/2017 15:28

I love it :) think it’s very masculine but still... kind, if that makes sense?

Kirbs1979 · 17/11/2017 15:09

It's my oh's name. Will warn you no one can seem to spell it despite it only having 3 different letters in it. He gets Emit, Emet, Emmet or Emett.

Ohyesiam · 17/11/2017 15:04

He may end up with Lego hair.

Yes, I like it too.😄

pigeondujour · 17/11/2017 12:05

Pretty ubiquitous in Ireland. It would make me think of a farmer, probably. Not that that's a bad thing.

ShotsFired · 17/11/2017 11:44

Like Back To The Future?

Mad doctor with crazy hair?

Or a labradoodle with try hard owners.

Ontopofthesunset · 17/11/2017 11:40

It means ant as well as tourist. And is the first two syllables of emetic, something which makes you vomit. Can't get over the ant association myself.

FizzyGreenWater · 17/11/2017 11:32

Yes, Emmett Till. Just too sad to use, it's a rare enough name that lots of people would have that association I think :(

icantgetnosleep5 · 17/11/2017 11:01

I really quite like it :)

EssentialHummus · 17/11/2017 10:53

I like it. Means “truth” in Hebrew if that does anything for you.

BattleaxeGalactica · 17/11/2017 10:50

Doc Brown from Back To The Future.

FML2017 · 17/11/2017 10:44

It makes me think of Kermit the frog

Sarahh2014 · 17/11/2017 09:22

Sorry reminds me of character in Keeping up Appearances

SuperBeagle · 17/11/2017 09:14

Makes me think of Emmett Till, which is a very sad association.

squoosh · 17/11/2017 08:37

Robert Emmet

bridgetreilly · 17/11/2017 08:36

Keeping Up Appearances. Utterly wet. Not a great association.

JamesBlonde1 · 17/11/2017 08:30

I think of an American yokel living on a farm, uneducated.

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 17/11/2017 08:24

Emmett from The Lego Movie and Dr Emmett Brown from Back to the Future spring to mind.

Debby08 · 17/11/2017 08:21

Never met anyone with the name Emmett.
