Too American? Assume it's a girl?

Can't make my mind up and dp loves it.

It sound girly, like a short form of Jessica, Jessie.

cushioncovers · 05/01/2018 23:49

I think of Jessica

brizzledrizzle · 05/01/2018 23:38

Jesse James so then the pogues

buttercup54321 · 05/01/2018 22:04

Jesse for a boy
Jessica for a girl

ReaderofMinds · 05/01/2018 22:01

I like it. The little boy in Free Willy is called Jesse.

Grimmfebruary · 05/01/2018 21:13

It’s still the top contender!

I love it OP. Had DD been DS2, she would have been a Jesse. DS1 is Jude, and I thought they sounded fabulous together!

greendale17 · 05/01/2018 20:00

I think boys name

Mrsknackered · 05/01/2018 19:47

I love it! Only didn't shortlist it because where we live it is a word for gay or something along those lines.

Smoliver · 05/01/2018 19:42

I know the spelling is different, but I think of song when I hear Jesse. Not saying it's bad though, I like the song! Grin

I know 2. One boy and one girl.
Love the name for both of them

Laqueue · 05/01/2018 19:28

It was the name of my mothers beloved younger cat who died before Christmas and his full name was Jesse James.

To me, that's who comes to mind- the outlaw Jesse James for whom the furball was named.

Hippydippydoo · 05/01/2018 19:15

It's a boy's name to me.

Shmithecat · 05/01/2018 19:11

I think boys name/Breaking Bad. But then also think about the song Jessie, by Joshua Kadison. Lovely song. About SJP allegedly.

beyondthesky · 05/01/2018 19:08

I know a Jesse and wasn't keen on the name at first but he is the nicest, gentlest, happy-go-lucky boy you could wish to meet.

Anasnake · 05/01/2018 18:47

'She asks me how the cat's been, I say Moses, he's just fine'
That song.

Jedigirl29 · 05/01/2018 13:23

Reminds me of full house

ABitOTT · 16/11/2017 23:11

I love it!

Most Jessicas I know are known as Jess rather than Jessie. I definitely see Jesse as a boys name & quite a cool one too.

Grimmfebruary · 16/11/2017 22:28

ChickenPoetry thank you for restoring my faith 🖤😂 just what I wanted to see. And floppy haired technology geeks with an acid tongue are so in vogue, love it!

I think American male. But that’s not a bad thing. Lots of very American sounding names around now like Woody, Harrison, Dexter.

Smidge001 · 16/11/2017 21:45

I'm from the south and we also used the phrase 'you big Jessie' to mean a big girls blouse.

ChickenPoetry · 16/11/2017 21:40

I have a Jesse.

I imagined a floppy haired surf dude... and he’s a floppy haired technology geek. 😂

We worried about using it because of every negative connotation that’s been raised here, but we honestly loved it too much. So he has a very strong, masculine middle name he can change to should he want to, and he’s excellent at put downs for anyone rude enough to say anything about his name. We really needn’t have worried, he totally owns it.

As for the rest - well once when I commented on here about the name, someone replied that they ‘would never sleep with someone called Jesse’ Which was actually quite a relief as I wouldn’t want my son to have a partner who was so shallow and judgmental.

Jesse James

FluffyMcCloud · 16/11/2017 21:13

Pink elephants and lemonade

Branleuse · 16/11/2017 21:11

I wouldnt think it was a girls name. Youd usually hear a girl called Jess or Jessica, but rarely Jessie/Jesse

I think its fairly unisex
