Scottish names - Fiona and Calum?

I'm Scottish and we want a Scottish name for DC3 due in January, but I have lived out the country for 18 years now, so I'm a bit out of touch with name fashions and connotations. DS1 and DS2 have Scottish names and DH has suggested, Fiona or Calum (probably one "l"). I quite like both, but not overwhelmed.

Any thoughts on those two names?

Calum's pretty classic, not overly popular or really unusual

Fiona... I don't think I know one under 40 - I'm not sure that's a good thing?

I was considering Calum but somebody pointed out that all the Calums they ever taught at school were naughty. When I thought about it I could only remember naughty Calums too! However right now I have a lovely wee Calum in my class who is just great so maybe the trend of naughty Calums has passed.

I love Fiona and it will likely be a middle name for DC1 if it’s a girl.

If you’re not keen, how about Flora?

Calum wouldn’t be my choice, but it’s definitely not “out there”.

Callum is lovely. I tend to think of Fiona as an older name, probably because all the Fionas I know are 30+.
Marian or Mhairi are lovely traditional girls names and not overused.

Good names.
Calum is quite popular here but not ridiculously so.
Fiona less popular for babies born now.

I like both. Fiona is really unusual for children (but I don't think dated - more of an underused classic).

I think Fraser, Angus, Flora, Isobel also fit your criteria, and I love Euan (as suggested above) and Catriona (minor spelling and pronounciation issues outside Scotland though).

I would go for Eilidh for a girls name. Calum is nice for a boy.

My Scottish friend has recently had a baby girl called Rhona which i think is lovely.

I like them both and would have had a Calum if my sister hadn't beat me to it - by about 10 years!

My favourite girls name is Lorna, but also love Mairi and Kirsty. For boys I like Gregor, Euan and Keir too.

Thanks all. I'm fine with nice, normal, uncontroversial etc Grin. We're looking for easy to spell, classics, that aren't too popular, but not too dated either.

I like Hamish very much, bu we can't use it (surname and already "taken" in the family). Ishbel I love, but DH feels it's too way out for where we live now

They're not really my style, but they're 'nice and normal' names, but not hugely popular.

My favourites are Hamish and Ishbel, if that's any help!

Classic Scottish names. I'd be happy with either of those.
