Ok mainly because I don’t want to put this anywhere else...! But I THINK we may have decided on names for baby 2. We have a Rupert nn Roo as our first DS. Won’t find out ace of this one. We have been really struggling woth girls names as have really particular taste and hate most names! But this evening think we have found one! Nicknames are important to us so we have been deliberating a lot as most girl nicknames are yuck imo:

Frederick nn Freddy (not likely ever be Frederick except birth certificate)

Imogen nn Midge (unlike above, only likely to be Midge in conversation and not in writing eg signing birthday cards etc)

Phew. Thought we’d be stuck for a girl name!

Love Frederick .
Not a fan of imogen, always reminds me of tht horrid women who slept with David Beckham !
Midge is not a nickname I would want either .. Would u?

harrietm87 · 14/11/2017 10:20

I think Rupert is a variant of Robert, so don’t think you can have a Roberta as well, which is a shame as it’s an awesome name.

Imogen is lovely but I agree with other posters that she will almost certainly end up as Immy whatever you do
so if you hate that I wouldn’t choose Imogen.

Leilaniii · 14/11/2017 05:49

Ooh, I love Midge! And Freddy. Good choices.

CakesRUs · 14/11/2017 05:45

I like midge.

Bue · 14/11/2017 03:02

Great taste, OP! Rupert and Frederick were both on our list for DC2 and our runner up girl name was Imogen.

Cockmagic · 14/11/2017 01:17

Midge are you fucking serious 😂

Think about the kid!

Imogen itself is lovely stop trying to force a shit nickname.

Hazandduck · 14/11/2017 01:01

Haha @bubblebubblepop she is one feisty little lady! 😃

Bubblebubblepop · 13/11/2017 22:10

(That was to @Hazandduck)

Bubblebubblepop · 13/11/2017 22:10

I love the niece Florence nn Roger 😂 That's One cool female right there

bottlesandcans · 13/11/2017 22:08

Midge is shockingly bad

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 13/11/2017 22:07

I love Bobbie! Like Roberta Flack too - V.cool.

A bit meh about Imogen.

HanutaQueen · 13/11/2017 22:02

There is not a single accent where 'Midge' sounds like 'Minge'. It LOOKS like it because there is one letter difference.

I used to know a girl known as Ratty.

It will be either a family nickname that will stick and she will always just be Midge, or she will turn round at some point and ask not to be called it any more, or she will end up with an even more unflattering nickname Grin

user71017 · 13/11/2017 09:06

For the love of god don't call your kid Midge. She'll either get kids going buzzzzzzz at her or she'll get other fanny related names.

RavenWings · 12/11/2017 13:57

Frederick/Freddy is nice, so is Imogen. Both are miles better than Roberta.

Midge though... 😷😷 I would hate to be known as that as a teen girl. You're either one of those wee yokes that flies about biting people, or you'll be called Minge. Neither is good.

Snuper · 12/11/2017 13:52

I like Midge.

TatianaLarina · 12/11/2017 13:35

Roberta’s ghastly. Slightly pompous.

MimiDeLaSun · 12/11/2017 12:21

Roberta is better.

I’m a secondary teacher and I can guarantee no teenage girl would choose to be called Minge sorry Midge.

pipilangstrumpf · 12/11/2017 11:56

Roberta is much nicer than Imogen.

And I agree, Midge is awful, sounds like midget.

TatianaLarina · 12/11/2017 11:34

Love Imogen hate Midge. The Imogen I know is called MiMi (mee mee)

But yes, her friends will define what she’s called.

mintich · 12/11/2017 10:30

I knew an Imogen called Midge, she was one of those super cool girls!

ChequeredPasta · 12/11/2017 10:27

Too close to minge I think.
Sorry

NerrSnerr · 12/11/2017 10:26

I like Imogen (but there are a lot around my area) but I would wait for the nickname to evolve. I have many friends who would be embarrassed by having an ironic nickname (like you said if they were tall). By school age I can imagine she’ll end up Immy anyway.

capercaillie · 12/11/2017 07:13

I love midge!

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 12/11/2017 07:11

Well the adult Imogen I know is known as Smidge, so I don’t find Midge too odd at all.

I can’t stand the name Imogen, but if you want to use it I can see how you’ve come up with Midge as the nn you’ll use.

I wouldn’t choose a name where you hate the most common shortenings though. She will be called Immy or Imo by friends & may well use one or the other herself. You are going to hear the nn you hate really often!
