Emmeline or Marnie

Emmeline and Marnie are currently our front runners. Emmeline relates to Pankhurst, and Marnie has a Hebrew origin (my husband’s family is Jewish). Which is better? I’m leaning towards Marnie, though slightly concerned it could sound too American :/

Emmeline is beautiful.
Like other posters, Marnie just makes me think of Geordie Shore..

I'd probably choose Marnie to avoid the different pronunciations of Emmaline.

Marnie slightly more than Emmaline as Marnie would be difficult to shorten.

You could use the other as a middle name.. Emmaline Marnie or Marnie Emmaline? Slight mouthful but then middle names are rarely used on a daily basis.

Yes Marnie does come from Hebrew. As well as other languages, like all names. It means rejoice.

Emmeline, such a lovely name. I'm afraid Geordie shore has tainted the name Marnie to something tacky imo.

Marnie's not Hebrew. It's a diminutive of Marina.

Much prefer Emmeline. It's beautiful.

I do like Marnie, it's pretty, but it sounds like a nickname to me.

Does Marnie have a Hebrew origin? I thought it was just a diminutive for either Mary, Margaret or Marian/Marianne? Of course Mary and therefore Marian which derives from it are originally from the Bible, did you mean that? - I'm interested. I like Marnie, but it does sound like it should be short for something.

Marnie's quite nice, but am afraid Alfred Hitchcock spoiled it for me.
(Though I suppose, strictly speaking, the film character was "Margaret"!).
