Teddy for a girl?

We don’t know what we are having yet, but I love the name Teddy for a girl.

I would use Theodora on the birth certificate.. so she could use Teddy, Thea, Dora or make some other name up if she didn’t want to be Teddy.

I first saw it on a tv show (Good Luck Charlie?) I think it was called. It’s an American show..

But I just love the name! What do you think for a girl?

I'll admit, I wouldn't pick it for my daughter, but I think it's pretty cute! Actually prefer the name Teddy on a girl. Grin

I think it's cute. Teddy was on our (boys) shortlist before DS was born (he ended up not suiting any of our boy names and with something completely different) but I think it works for both boys and girls - one of the 3yo girls at the nursery I worked at a couple of years ago was a Teddy (not sure what it was short for) and I thought it was lovely on her. Theodora gives her lots of options later in life, too :)

I don’t think it matters. The intention is to CALL the child Teddy, irrespective of what’s on the BC.

Why? I didn’t ask opinions on my children’s names because I didn’t give a stuff what anyone else thought of our choices. The OP clearly does and that’s why she has asked on here.

I don't like it all. I remember thinking when Robbie Williams named his daughter Teddy what an awful name to choose.

Not keen on Theodora either. People will shorten it anyway so pointless giving a long name unless you want her to be called by the shortened version

I love it! I know of one spelt with an 'ie' rather than a 'y'. I think it's lovely and she doesn't get teased. If you've liked it for this long and wish you'd used it before then defo go for it!
If your other children are named more traditionally then I would go with Theadora or just have Teddie and pair with a more common middle name :)

Eleanor instead of Theodore?

Teddy can just be a nickname - doesn’t need to be linked to the name particularly

I do already have a daughter who I really wanted to call Teddy. She was born before Robbie Williams had his. I can’t even remember why I didn’t use it.

Thea where I am would be pronounced Th-ee-ah.

One of the things putting me off is that my other two children have traditional names - although both are in top 10. Knew DS name was but didn’t realise DD name was. Although I’ve never seen another with her name.

I’m not due until Spring next year so I have plenty of time to change my mind - which happened a lot with the other two!

I associate Teddy with a boy. Definitely not a girl, sorry.
Eg, Edward, shortened to Ted or Teddy.

The very fact it’s what that plonker Robbie Williams has called his daughter puts me right off. Otherwise, very cute.
