Margot

Have a girl due in January. We both LOVE Margot however only how it sounds, not how it’s written, wouldn’t want to go with Margo or Margaux either. Unfortunately it just looks to harsh with our surname and every time I see it written down I think of maggot!

Can you lovely people think of any similar names?? We like more traditional old fashioned names

Thanks in advance!

Marguerite is nice. Is your Auntie British?

Margaret and Martha are good shouts, will speak to DH about them, thanks

Some lovely suggestions on here. It’s sooo hard choosing a name! Really stressing me out!

I'm not a fan of it tbh but I think these names are in a similar vein

Greta
Edith/Edie
Adeline/Ada/Ida
Martha
Frances

I think Margot is a really harsh sounding name. My mother in law is Margaret and she grew up with 'Maggots' as a nickname.

I love the suggestion of Martha.

Martha

I agree that Margaret, with Margo(t) as a nickname would work nicely. If that's not for you, how about:

Pearl
Mabel
Maeve
Vivien
Iris
June
Lucy
Thea
Nicole
Beatrix
Daphne
Clara

RedPandaMama · 30/10/2017 16:27

Could always go with Margaret or Marjorie and have Margot/Maggie/Mary as nicknames? Smile

Anatidae · 30/10/2017 16:27

Margot is lovely.

Margareta?

RedPandaMama · 30/10/2017 16:26

I love Margot too but don't like it written down. We went with Florence for our DD but also discussed Alice, Eleanor, Clarice, Emilia, Emma, Elizabeth, Katherine, Laura, Phoebe, Dorothy/Dorothea and Heather.
