What are people’s thoughts on using the name Eddie as a first name and not shortened from Edward?

I'd not like a name like Eddie on my BC as I grew out of my childhood nickname long ago. I do have some close relatives who still use their diminutives for pretty much everything in their late teens/early twenties so different children will like different things. Nice to have options though.

Edwin, Edric or Edison are other options.

Not Eddie on the birth certificate. Could you go for Edmund or Edgar instead of Edward?

I agree with others about having Edward on the birth certificate tbh. Keeps options open for him when he's older.

I like Eddie, but only as a shortening of Edward. I feel the same about Charlie & Charles, Tom and Thomas etc. I just prefer to have a more classic version of the name on the birth certificate to give the child options.

Its your baby though, so it's up to you of course.

I would stick with Edward. You can always call him Eddie, but he'll have Edward to fall back on if it turns out he's a future accountant type who wants a more serious, grown-up name as an adult. Giving a child the full version of a name gives them more options for names when they're older.
