That's it really - would you say the name Pip is more a girls name or a boys name? Thanks!

Either.

Quite an advantage professionally to have a gender neutral name.

Baffledcousin · 29/10/2017 13:14

Another Archers listener here. I'd think girl first, but wouldn't be surprised if it was a boy.

The only Pip I know in real life is a middle-aged, very sporty woman.

Dozer · 29/10/2017 12:52

Either sex, but would dislike it as a name unless short for something else.

Pip from the Archers is annoying!

A boy of course.

PuppyMonkey · 29/10/2017 12:44

What larks, Pip. Grin

Boy called Phillip for me.

Smoliver · 29/10/2017 12:42

I'd think boy - main male character in Great Expectations it called Pip.

tiddleywinks27 · 29/10/2017 12:20

Girl

TheLegendOfBeans · 29/10/2017 12:00

Pip = boy
Pippa = girl

NataliaOsipova · 29/10/2017 12:00

If it's a nickname, then it's short for either Philip or Phillippa. Like Alex is short for either Alexander or Alexandra, or Jo for Joseph or Josephine, or Lou for Louise or Louis. So I'd say it's pretty unisex.

BikeRunSki · 29/10/2017 11:59

Boy - Great Expectations
Girl - The Archers

BikeRunSki · 29/10/2017 11:58

Either, I think it’s a lovely nickname, but definitely a nickname, not a full name.

canttestright · 29/10/2017 11:56

Boy- great expectations

QueenLaBeefah · 29/10/2017 11:54

Boy.

Starwhisperer · 29/10/2017 11:51

Surely she will end up with whatever her parents choose to call her?

FizzyGreenWater · 29/10/2017 11:45

Boy.

She will end up as Pippa!

CharlotteC77 · 29/10/2017 11:19

Thanks all! As you may have guessed, the full name would be Philippa... but I do love a nickname and prefer Pip to Pippa

I immediately also thought of great expectations.

Starwhisperer · 29/10/2017 11:15

I wouldn't assume as I know both male and female Pips. I quite like it for either.

C0untDucku1a · 29/10/2017 11:15

Either. Philippa or philip.

PinkHeart5914 · 29/10/2017 11:14

Imagine being an adult in a job being called pip Confused why do it to the child?

I’d think pip in an Apple tbh. So many better names out there and less embarrassing ones for when they are over the age of 12 months

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/10/2017 11:12

Either.

I know of one male Pip, but have several female friends called Pip.

PotteringAlong · 29/10/2017 11:11

Girl

stopbeingadramallama · 29/10/2017 11:09

I just thought the pip of an apple to be honest😂

BroomstickOfLove · 29/10/2017 11:09

Either. All the Pips I know are female, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to meet a male one.
