Girls names - how do you feel about these?

Liadain · 27/10/2017 22:40

I've been trying out a few names in my head recently and for one reason or another, these have been sticking - so looking for any thoughts you might have! I have others I like as well, but will just stick with these to make it simpler.

Farrah
Diana
Rania/Raina (different yes, but I like both)
Bryony

I suppose one of my biggest questions is are some of them too tied to famous people (the Queen of Jordan, Princess Di and that Teen Mom woman)?

Farrah

Liadain · 28/10/2017 21:46

@mrsknackered - yes, Liadain is on my main list 😁 I didn't put everything on this one, just a few!

@fairy - inventing Farrah, I love it! Maybe I can throw in a few extra letters then to make it mine, and be yoounique. Pharahhh?

I love Diana.

greendale17 · 28/10/2017 20:49

Bryony.

Diana sounds very dated and old woman

BernardBlacksHangover · 28/10/2017 20:48

@Fairy I remember that thread! Was one of the stranger ones I've read on here.

FairyMcHairy · 28/10/2017 20:43

You can’t use Farrah I’m afraid, it was made up my another mumsnetter and she has exclusive use of it.

PhuntSox · 28/10/2017 20:36

Diana! Wonder Woman is fab!

noitsachicken · 28/10/2017 20:26

I have a Bryony!
Only ever had positive comments, I hope she likes her name as an adult!
Only been called Brian once by a South African OOH doctor who hadn't heard of the name and thought she was a boy!

Mrsknackered · 28/10/2017 20:23

Love Liadain though!

Mrsknackered · 28/10/2017 20:22

Bryony and Raina.

I don't love any of them though.

MegAndSprog · 28/10/2017 19:33

Bryony is lovely!

Liadain · 28/10/2017 18:25

Interesting mix of replies coming back! Thanks all. I had actually forgotten about Farrah Fawcett when I was typing that - but I don't mind the association with her. I'd hope she has a longer lasting impact than Farrah from Teen Mom, anyway.

I like Farrah and Bryony. I had Bryony on my list for DD, but I don't think DH was keen.

I'm not mad about Diana or Raina / Rania.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/10/2017 15:47

Rains is very lovely, and different, otherwise Diana.

bridgetreilly · 28/10/2017 14:10

Bryony is a beautiful name.

Diana, I think you can just about get away with these days, if you love it.

Rania/Raina, Farrah, I don't like at all.

ImSoUnoriginal · 28/10/2017 12:44

I don't like any of them. I'm not even sure why. I guess in part, for the association with famous people and partly, as someone else pointed out, that they sound a bit 80's. Just not to my taste I guess but that's just my opinion and others clearly like them. 😊

HeteronormativeHaybales · 28/10/2017 12:23

They all feel very 80s to me. At a pinch I'd go with Bryony or Diana.

Holdtightdontletgo · 28/10/2017 12:21

Bryony for me

daisypond · 28/10/2017 12:20

I like Diana the most. I quite like Bryony as well, but it reminds me of Brian, which puts me off it a bit.

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 28/10/2017 12:19

The only grown up Bryony’s I know all hate their names, without fail.

Thewolfsjustapuppy · 28/10/2017 12:18

I really like Diana, it’s a classic and also unusual but well known.

17caterpillars1mouse · 28/10/2017 12:15

Farrah - I know a little Farrah. I'm not a massive fan of it though

Diana - I quite like it. My first thought was actually Diana Vickers lol

Rania/Raina (different yes, but I like both) - dislike these but prefer Raina of the two I think

Bryony - I really like this. The only one I know is 15. She used to go by the nn Bree but uses Bryony now

My choices would be Bryony or Diana

Aquamarine1029 · 28/10/2017 02:28

To correct above, Farrah Fawcett.

Aquamarine1029 · 28/10/2017 02:26

I absolutely love Farrah. It's simply a lovely name. It means "beauty", "fortune", "joy", and "glory". Some might initially think of the actress Farrah Fawcet, but I certainly wouldn't mind that. She was a lovely, generous, caring person. Gorgeous name.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/10/2017 01:33

Farrah - though of Mo
Diana -really dated imo
Rania/Raina (different yes, but I like both) - meh
Bryony - love it
