Which one should I choose x

Look you've got people queuing up here to tell you that Sydney is the female spelling. It's the first thing I thought of too. So yes that should tell you that it's a bad idea unless you want him to be explaining it forever! Have a girl and use Sydney then - it's fab. But feminine!

Other names like your list - how about:

I’d be mindful that majority of posts think Sydney is female spelling. So irrespective of your preference the teachers,nursery staff, social circle will probably also think Sydney is a female name

I agree that with a Y Sydney looks feminine...you may be ok with this but would your son like a 'girly' version of his name? To me it's like spelling a boys name Ashleigh rather than Ashley (one seems far more feminine than the other) think of what your son will prefer not you. I also prefer the longer version of names for BC so for these reasons I would chose George or Warren.

He's so unbelievably loaded it doesn't matter what he's called. I was referring to Vinnie though not Zach, which is fine shortened.

Sydney is a girl's name; Sidney is the boy's version. You don't want people to tease him; kids will always take the piss when they can.

Shortened names don't lend themsleves well to formal work environments. Vinnie would fine if he was a welder, not so good in a news presenter or PM.

I'd go for George or Zachary personally, but I don't like the fashion for old men's names.

Of course he's not going to be bullied for the "Y". But he will have a lifetime of correcting the spelling every single time. Which is a pain in the neck. There are 5 girl Sydneys to every 1 boy.

Sydney is the female version, but as long as you told people it was a boy then I suppose you’d be ok. ( I’m thinking of a teacher looking at their class lists etc when they first get it)

George is nice and so is Vinnie.

By the way these are just the names we have so far, I'm only 5 months so still got a while to go yet before I set my heart on one. I'm just really struggling at the moment. I don't want extremely comman names but I don't want a name that's completely un heard of x

@lilmisskittykat I don't think people are going to bully a child because Iv replaced the I with a Y in Sydney lol, I get your point and Ino that it is the girl spelling but people spell there children's name differently all the time, Iv got a baby name app on my phone and the name Sydney is in the boys category not the girls, And this is how it's spelt and I like it x

Having run a Pre-school for 17 years, names always make me think of particular children for good or bad. The only name I wouldn't pick would be Zac as he was the only child who has ever driven me to the verge of a nervous breakdown Blush

I know two girls that are Sydney and I would choose Zac, love that name and not as popular as George

I agree with previous posters that Sydney is the female version of Sidney on that alone wouldn’t use that name - I’m getting the blue heart that you love it but doesn’t change people’s views. I just think why give kids the chance to bully as they can be cruel.

I also agree with the full version on birth certificates, so I’m clearly one for tradition too.

If it were me with those choices I’d go for zac.
