Wren (for a boy?)

DD has been watching a TV show that has a male Wren in it, she likes it for DS. What do you think?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
viques · 15/10/2017 19:00

If you ever visit the Corams Fields Foundling Hospital they have lists of names that they renamed children with. One list is birds names, Lark,Linnet, Wren, Robin, all used for girls, I personally like birds names, but not little brown bird names for boys. Though Finch might be rather nice.

Sorry, thread diversion, carry on...

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 15/10/2017 18:54

I only like it for a girl. Like pps, if I met a male wren I might think ren, as in ren and stimpy.

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/10/2017 18:53

Wren would be automatically assumed to be female. Do you think this would bother you and/ or your son?

I think Ren is a male name but that makes me think of the godawful 90s cartoon Ren and Stimpy eurgh

MyBeloved · 15/10/2017 18:52

I just associate it with Ren and Stimpy. It's a no from me.

FizzyGreenWater · 15/10/2017 18:52

Hmm it's not a very nice sound really!

littlechou · 15/10/2017 18:52

No I don’t like it. Cute for a small little boy/baby. Terrible (imo) for a fully grown man.

It sounds a bit feeble for me, sorry.

On the other hand Ren as a nn for Lorenzo/Lawrence as mentioned by PP is lovely and your Ds can choose whether to take that through to adulthood rather than be saddled with it

ScarletSienna · 15/10/2017 18:47

I think @shouldwestayorshouldwego has the best view point here given they were named by a sibling and resents it (regardless of the name).

Awful name for a boy or a girl. Ask a few grown men if they’d like to be called it as that would probably help.

Jooni · 15/10/2017 18:39

I like Wren, more for a girl but it's fine for a boy too IMO. Why do boys have to have hulking great macho names? It won't stop him being a rugby player if he wants to be.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/10/2017 18:09

I'm not sure how it would work for a teenage boy or man. However, it'd be a very apt nickname for a baby - small but unbelievably loud!Grin

rosybell · 15/10/2017 17:55

I would def spell it Ren for a boy. I like it- i can imagine it working well for a boy or man. It's quite cool and different. Bit of a Star Wars link too - kylo Ren.

Inneedofacookeddinner · 15/10/2017 17:51

Why is a sibling coming up with suggestions for her baby brother such an issue? How odd.

I quite like Wren, it's no different from Robin/Robyn IMO

PurpleDaisies · 15/10/2017 17:41

I don't like it at all.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 15/10/2017 17:41

I don’t like it for either sex particularly, but I’d assume Wren was a girl.
Rotten name for a boy.

FartnissEverbeans · 15/10/2017 17:39

shouldwestay I think you might be projecting a bit

OP, I think it's quite likeable but what if he grows up to be a massive big rugby player type?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/10/2017 16:40

I love the name Wren for a girl, but Ren for a boy, as in Lorenzo/Lawrence.
Or how about Rad/Conrad, or Bram ?
I think it's lovely that your daughter is taking an interest in naming her brother.

frackley · 15/10/2017 14:19

@shouldwestayorshouldwego I think you're a little bit too annoyed over this tbh. She's just helping with names. It's such a non issue, get over it.

No.

greendale17 · 15/10/2017 13:56

No

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 15/10/2017 13:53

Even worse if she is 17 to be honest. The role of naming a child should be one for the parent not a 17yr old (unless her child) or a bunch of randoms on the internet

Liadain · 15/10/2017 13:50

If I heard it in public I'd think you actually named him after Ren from Footloose.

I don't like it (Wren or Ren!). It's a bit wet tbh.

GreyFluffball · 15/10/2017 13:48

I think of it as feminine but that's perhaps because I've only come across girls named Wren.

nodogsinthebedroom · 15/10/2017 13:45

AFAIK it's mostly used as a girls name so no, I wouldn't.

frackley · 15/10/2017 13:43

@shouldwestayorshouldwego buy a 17 year old a teddy? I obviously wouldn't name my son a name she has picked, I have to like it too. Unfortunately, I have no DP, so it's nice to discuss names with her.

ThatsWotSheSaid · 15/10/2017 13:43

I like it.

PotteringAlong · 15/10/2017 13:43

No.
