What does everyone think of Amber as a girl’s name?

I think it is very pretty, maybe every so slightly hippyish/"rock star's daughter" but has been popular for long enough now that it's beginning to seem more mainstream. I also really love amber the stone and the colour, so it's full of good associations for me.

whiteroseredrose · 06/10/2017 22:53

Sorry Sonyaya. It is actually a lovely name. And those connotations are from about 30 years ago (when phone boxes still existed).

early30smum · 06/10/2017 10:50

I love it. Was on our list both times.

Kpo58 · 06/10/2017 09:55

I like Amber. I don't see it as a stripper's name, its not like you are going for Crystal...

Smoliver · 06/10/2017 09:50

I love both Amber and Ruby

Mrsknackered · 05/10/2017 23:15

I do like it but wouldn't use it.

Ember?

Normandy144 · 05/10/2017 21:22

I like I but DH said it was a stripper name along with the likes of Jasmine and Chloe.

LadyWithLapdog · 05/10/2017 21:16

I liked it before Amber Rudd. But then I also liked Theresa. Now that's off yo join Margaret.

soupforbrains · 05/10/2017 21:15

I work with a lot of Italians and the Italian version is Ambra which I love too.

littlepooch · 05/10/2017 21:14

I love it.

Argeles · 05/10/2017 21:14

Amber is nice. I also really like Ambreen (Arabic and Urdu), and Anbarin (Persian and Arabic).

trinitybleu · 05/10/2017 21:13

How about Amberley?

Sophronia · 05/10/2017 21:11

Not keen, sounds like an 80s American cheerleader.

sonyaya · 05/10/2017 20:44

Thanks all - interesting! Husband doesn’t like it because he says it is stripper. Maybe he has a point!

Also, Ruby was my other name Confused

Love it. Was on my shortlist for dd.

whiteroseredrose · 05/10/2017 20:41

DM used to work in a school in a red light district. Ruby, Amber and Jade were very common names on the cards in telephone boxes there.

whiteroseredrose · 05/10/2017 20:39

Yes. I was going to say hooker along with Ruby and Jade. Sad

IncidentalAnarchist · 05/10/2017 20:39

Stripper

PeasAndHarmony · 05/10/2017 20:38

Lovely name, unusual without being made up or ridiculous.

WhenEnoughIsEnough · 05/10/2017 20:31

Love it

crazypenguinlady · 05/10/2017 20:29

My friend has a new baby called Amber. She is adorable so I like it because of her :)

Muddlingalongalone · 05/10/2017 20:28

I'm not mad keen tbh - not sure why. Now because of Amber Rudd but I didn't like it before that.
I know one aged 4 and one aged 2 and it's their name and they are lovely so nothing specific explain why I feel like it.

NutellaDoughnut · 05/10/2017 20:24

Love it.

RhonaRugMuncherr · 05/10/2017 20:19

Really like it. It transitions well through the ages

Ttbb · 05/10/2017 20:15

I automatically think stripper name although I don't actually think that it's a stripper name but in most American things shows etc that seems to be the connotation
