York / Henry / Jasper

DH and I are expecting DS 2 and we just can't agree on a single name, after months and months we have our top 3 but neither of us is 100% happy.

DH is obsessed with York, which I actually hated 7 months ago but after all the other names DH suggested it sounds pretty normal to my ears now.

I adore Henry, I think it goes well with sibling names but DH doesn't like it all. He dislikes it as much as I dislike York.

We both like Jasper but we don't love it, however it is the only name that we can agree on it.

Sibling names are Claudette, Warren and Georgiana.

So should I back down and just give him York, stick to my guns and try and convince him to go with Henry or should we both concede and go with Jasper.

Oooo what about Horatio?!

shelbysjuice · 03/10/2017 19:29

@Chaffinch4 where do you find out how many babies were born with a certain name? I’ve always wondered!

BewareOfDragons · 03/10/2017 19:26

Jasper is the best of the three.

York isn't a name. But Yorick was used in Shakespeare. Grin 'Alas, poor Yorick. I knew him Horatio!"

Henry is meh. And there are quite a few of them at the moment.

DiegoMadonna · 03/10/2017 19:25

And Georgiana is rare too! Although it's close to Georgina and Georgia which are both more popular.

I'd say go with Jasper because there's no way in hell I'd ever go with York, and if he feels that way about Henry then it's unfair to expect him to put up with a name he hates if you wouldn't either.

There were only 3 baby girls named Claudette in 2016 so yes, pretty unusual but not unheard of!

EleanorFen · 03/10/2017 19:15

Henrik doesn't sound too bad, I'll bring it up this evening but it seems like most people are leaning for Jasper.

Apart from Warren, I didn't consider our girl's names unusual, interesting that other people do.

What about Henrik? Like Henry but cooler, and would sit well with your other names.

Or Jorvik? The viking name for York.

OlennasWimple · 03/10/2017 19:02

York is a placename, not a boy's name. Great name for a pet if DH is really obsessed, but please don't lumber a child with it.

Henry is fine, but if DH hates it, that's an end of discussion, surely?

Jasper is nice and "goes" with your DDs. Maybe you will both grow to love it?

Chaffinch4 · 03/10/2017 19:02

York doesn't sound like a name to me, it's just a city. That's not to say it can't be a name, of course.

I like Henry, but I don't think it goes that well with your other childrens' names, which are quite unusual.

Jasper would go well with the other names and I do like it. I'd definitely try to pick a name you both like, rather than a favourite of either of you.
