Hi all just wondering what you think of the name Mary? I quite like it think it has a simple vintage sound to it..

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ImListening · 03/10/2017 10:54

I wanted it for dds name but dh vetoed it. I love it.

PsychoPumpkin · 03/10/2017 10:53

I love it. I quite like old fashioned names.

SumAndSubstance · 03/10/2017 10:51

What about Queen Mary?
Im not Catholic and it was nearly my dd's mn

Are you suggesting that "Bloody Mary" wasn't Catholic??

I like it a lot, OP, but would also wonder if you were Catholic as nowadays I think it's most commonly (but obviously not exclusively!) used by Catholic families. Don't think that matters though!

IJustGotHitByADeer · 03/10/2017 10:37

I’m ttc and I love the name Mary so much I plan to use it if we have a DD (it’s the name of a relative of DH’s side)

Simple, feminine and elegant. Not too fussy Smile

Beautiful name

crazycatgal · 02/10/2017 23:38

It's one of my middle names and I've never really liked it. I was actually teased at school when someone found out that Mary was my middle name.

FlossyAnn · 02/10/2017 23:15

Mary was a common childhood name for vagina where I am too... or maybe we're in the same place.

TinselTwins · 02/10/2017 23:11

I love it

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 02/10/2017 23:10

Who uses Mary as another word for vagina?? Confused
It's lovely, op. Ignore the naysayers.

Mrswinkler · 02/10/2017 23:09

Catholic. Would avoid like the plague. (Lapsed)

AJPTaylor · 02/10/2017 23:05

as long as she doesnt have a brother called Joseph you are fine

SuperBeagle · 02/10/2017 23:01

I like it, but it's far too religious for me to have ever considered using it. I wouldn't use it unless you are religious.

Piffpaffpoff · 02/10/2017 23:00

I love it. My DDs middle name.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 02/10/2017 22:57

I love it, very nice !

thisisafreename · 02/10/2017 22:57

Excellent choice. Far better than some of the weak as water names knocking around.

AgSiopadoireachtAris · 02/10/2017 22:50

I like it.
Boring on a 65 year old but refreshing mow

Esker · 02/10/2017 22:44

I love Mary and would definitely consider it for a daughter. Although my surname ends in a rhyming 'y' sound, which puts me off as I detest rhyming names Sad

MollyHuaCha · 02/10/2017 18:36

Never heard of that use for the name Mary!

Personally I love the Mary - beautiful, classic, serene, timeless. I wanted it for one of my DCs but DH said no.

Bowsandbugs · 02/10/2017 17:58

I also unfortunately think of vagina as that's what my friends called theirs when we were little

hollyisalovelyname · 02/10/2017 17:57

Lovely now as it is so rare but not if you are a seventy/ sixty something in Ireland Smile
I have Mary aunts on both sides.
There are so many of them!!!!
I love Mariel.

HocusPocus648 · 02/10/2017 17:50

Don't do it. It's my middle name and I've always secrely hated it.

People use this name as another world for vagina which has ruined the name for me.

It might be classic, but if you called your DD this name, she would definitely stand out from the Lilys, Amelias, Avas etc. But I don't think her name would stand out in a good way in the opinions of her peers.

HelenaJustina · 02/10/2017 17:46

Lovely, classic and strong but feminine

Pemba · 02/10/2017 17:44

'Boring and totally unimaginative' these days would be another Ava, Isla, Evie or Lily.

I think Mary is nice, a classic name which is due a comeback.
