I really like this name, but will it get misprononced - coh-REEN rather than COH-rin?

It's nice go for it

sosieso · 16/08/2023 21:26

This is my mums name, although hers is spelled Corrinne (her folks heard it in a French movie and were unsure how to spell it). She pronounces it Cor Reen. She absolutely HATES her names because no one pronounces it ‘correctly’ and she is now known as Connie.

I have a friend called Corrine pronounced the way you describe, and I have to admit when we first met it took a while for me to stop accidentally calling her cor-rinne. I think that's just the natural way to pronounce it

Corinne is nice. I say it with a short vowell sound too - due to the double n.

Corina could be like the Coroner

Makes me think of this lovely/love-lorn old poem/song. MUCH prefer Corinna:

Longdarkcloud · 06/08/2023 22:08

Why don’t you spell it Coryn to feminise it but keep the same pronunciation as Corin?

WakyWally · 06/08/2023 20:36

Corrine is a cool name. Reminds me of Corrine Drewery of Swing Out Sister. She was cool.

Veterinari · 01/10/2017 01:21

Lovely name.
Agree with PP double ‘n’ makes ‘Co-rin’

ladybirdsaredotty · 30/09/2017 21:45

I'd pronounce it Cor-rin.

Lemondrop99 · 30/09/2017 17:03

I'd have pronounced it Cor-een. That might be wrong but it's how I would have said it

17caterpillars1mouse · 30/09/2017 16:03

I thought it was Coh-rin

Pretty, underused name it's lovely

pipilangstrumpf · 30/09/2017 15:48

Why are so many thinking EEN? It’s not spelled CorINE/ChristINE but CorINNE. The double N makes it short, doesn’t it?

Liadain · 30/09/2017 15:43

I would have pronounced it Cor-een. I know a Lorinne (Lor-een) so that is probably influencing it.

You might like Carina too?

TiramisuQueenoftheFaeries · 30/09/2017 15:40

It's a pretty name (although I would pronounce it the French way) but it will always be the abusive mother from Flowers in the Attic to me.

harrietm87 · 30/09/2017 15:38

I know a Corinne pronounced Corin (Cor - in, equal stress). Lovely name.

Chaffinch4 · 30/09/2017 10:53

Maybe it's one of those Naomi type names that people just say in different ways!

I still like it.

Corine would be Cor-EEN

Corinne is Cor-INNE

And the boys name Corin COR-in

Marie541 · 30/09/2017 01:34

I know 1 and she pronounces ir Cor-reen, so this is how I would pronounce it. Nice name though with either pronounciation.

ShizzleYoDrizzle · 29/09/2017 23:19

Wasn't/isn't Corinne Bailey Ray a cuh-RIN?

Chaos777 · 29/09/2017 23:07

I know two Corinnes, and only ever heard it pronounced as Coh-Reen.

minipie · 29/09/2017 22:59

Oh dear I'd have said Coh-REEN, I think of it as a French name and didn't realise there was a different English pronunciation

ferrier · 29/09/2017 22:47

UK - emphasis on the first syllable. As per the boys' equivalent as a pp said.

sosieso · 29/09/2017 22:46

This is my mums name and she hates it because everyone pronounces it differently and no one can spell it. She always joked that only the French can say it correctly. She pronounces it Coh-reen (ala PauLINE/ChrisTINE). Because of all the issues she had, she gave me and my siblings nice, but very popular names that everyone could pronounce/spell! Personally, I'd rather have a more unusual name as I was one of four in my class with my name :(

ByAllMeansMoveAtAGlacialPace · 29/09/2017 22:33

I'd pronounce it Coh-rin. I have a French friend called karine pronounced Ka-reen which I think is really pretty.

AdaColeman · 29/09/2017 22:16

I think Corinna is prettier.
