Another vote for Hester.

TBH, i have never heard of Hesper, and I imagine she would have to spell her name all the time, and that people would misspell it as Hester, anyway, which I know from experience of having an unusually spelled name, really can be a PITA.

There was an 80s sitcom called Fresh Fields with a middle aged woman character called Hester and it makes me think of that as well as former RBS boss Stephen Hester

Hesper just doesn’t look right

I agree with nonameyet. I clicked the thread as I didn't know the names and until people mentioned girls I was sure we were talking about boys' names!

Hesper is horrible to my ears. Hard, sounds like vesper (religiousy church connections) and really terrible if your child ever ends up living in the north, where she would be 'Esper. Hester would similarly be 'Ester. Which to me is a chemical!

I like Hester - reminds me of a character in a book called The Bus Girls, that I read as a child - she was known as Hetty.

Not meaning to be rude but I didn't realise they were girls names. Saying it aloud, Hester like Esther makes sense.

Hesper, doesn't flow as well.

I knew a beautiful, clever teenage Hester so that's given the name a positive association for me. I like it.

I LOVE Hesper but it gets such bad reviews that I've given up on ever using it. Sad

Hester seems the clear favourite.

Fridgedoor Hesper is a name, but it is admittedly pretty rare. It's from the same root as Vesper. Love Vesper but the Bond Girl thing puts me off.

Phunt I like Hephzibah but it's too out there even for me! I'd definitely call a cat it though Grin

Esther is lovely but too close to a family member's name.
