Malakai?

So since my family found out I was pregnant, my mum has had an obsession with the name Malakai! I hated it and laughed it off to start with but it's actually really growing on me... what's everyone's opinions? I'm due 14/09/18!!

Love it. That's how they spell it in the Pacific Islands so it's not wrong but if you're not in the Southern Hemisphere I'd go for the more conventional spelling

Malakai is definitely a real spelling.

It was the 459th most popular name last year (out of 6247).

I know a Malakai spelt that way (as well as a Malachy). I think it's a good name, but have to say I'm not so keen on Mal as a shortening.

Agree with past posts original spelling! Don't butcher a traditional spelling of a name for no good reason. A name defines a child and from experience you can grow resentful of a name no one can spell properly.

Lovely name. Classic yet still slightly different. But spell it correctly for the love of Pete. Please. My nephew has a 'normal' name with a 'quirky' spelling. He's 13 and it drives him bonkers.

It's a lovely name but why subject your child to having to correct people on the spelling for the rest of their lives

It's not incorrect, it's a variation on the traditional name.

Spelling it incorrectly isn't a nice twist, it's setting them up for a lifetime of having their name misspelt!

I like Malachi.

@2014newme there's no 'right' way to spell a name anymore, it's down to preference.. I haven't spelt it the traditional way but that doesn't mean it's wrong..

Sorry I meant 14/01/18, no need for the sarcastic comments about an innocent typo.

It is originally spelt Malachi yes, but I like different names and I thought it was a nice twist

I like it.

I know 2 people called Malachi (one pronounced Mala Kai; on pronounced Mala Key) and another called Malachy. (Mala key)

I would have considered Malachi (spelt correctly) but not keen on the nicknames Mal or Kai so it's a no from me.
