What about Mellow?

She’d be Mellie a lot too... is Mellow too hippy?! Second name begins with M so love the flow...

You'd be unlikely to have comments in RL though, because most people have better manners.

The whole purpose of this topic is to give opinions on names unfiltered by RL manners, isn't it?

Also, stop picking random words and saying that they’re names. They’re not names. Yes anything can be given as a name but it doesn’t mean it should; I’m reminded of a vulgar phrase “anything’s a dildo if you’re brave enough” 😉

If you're going to overreact like that every time someone thinks it's a rubbish name, maybe don't go for something "quirky and individual" Hmm as names like that often receive unwanted comment.

I always think naming children after character traits/virtues is a bad idea (patience, chastity etc) and mellow falls into that category for me. You just know they'd end up being a highly strung drama queen.

According to your other thread you're 29. That's old enough to know that Mellow is not a name for a child or an adult that will not encourage eyebrow raising and judgement.

Matilda could probably be nicknamed to Melly?

I was going to suggest Meadow but see you don't like it. I think with the greatest respect that Mellow needs a rethink. There are other names like Patience or Serenity that would work better.

And if you're "young" but old enough to be qualified to teach we're probably about the same age, if that makes any difference (though I wouldn't self define as "young quirky and individual" or consider myself to be a particularly young mum tbh)

What about Marlowe? Christopher Marlowe is a good name sake, I think Sienna Miller's daughter is called this, not 100%.

You could also spell it Malo, it's a saints name - usually a boys name but my History teacher when I was in secondary school had a daughter called Malo, and I thought it was lovely and unusual. I think in the current climate of gender fluid names it wouldn't stand out as odd and it's unusual enough that people would just associate it with your daughter.

I think it'd end awful if they weren't Mellow by nature. Lots of teasing.

How about using a more popular name (it doesn't have to be John or Nicole- just something recognisable as a name) with a unique nickname, then if they make the choice not to be 'quirky and individual' they're not stuck with a name that doesn't fit or suit them.

There are many many names that are neither as traditional as John or as dated as Nicole (although I bet a 2017 Nicole would be pretty unusual) or as odd as 'mellow'. Mellow doesn't sound hippy at all to me, I just don't recognise it as a name at all. Or were you thinking hippy = druggy perhaps - ie mellow stoners?

If you want unusual (I have a very unusual name myself which I love, but it is recognisably a name) and like Mellie then how about Carmella, Melinda, Melody or Melisande? I expect most people will assume a Mellie is Melanie though.
