Is this opening him up to teasing...?

Baby is due mid December. Not sure if it's a boy or girl yet but we love the name Rudy for a boy. I can't help worrying though that as it's so close to xmas he's inevitably get teased about the Rudolph connection. I wouldn't even think about it if baby wasn't due at xmas, but I worry! Is it mean? Do you think he would get teased badly?

I like Rudy. I don't think of Rudolph at all with this name, even with it a December baby. It's not like you're naming your son Rudolf. I say go for it!

It's what I call my kids when they're being rude. "Hey rudy rude pants".

Pretty common in London 10 years ago. Kids will tease about anything but Rudy is fine.

We have a Rudy in our family. He is 13 now and as far as I'm aware he's never been teased about his name, even at his all boys school. To be fair, he is confident and outgoing and would be more than capable of dealing with smart remarks about his name. From birth he has been called Rudy, Rude boy and Rooster. I love it.

If you are asking the question it is because the answer is probably 'yes'. He may be fine with it- unfortunately you can't tell whether he will have the personally to carry it off ,so I would avoid.

Rudi or Rudy are nicknames for Rudolph. Or Rudyard?

But, as others have said, I think the ‘rude’y part is more teasable.

I love Rudy. Would have used it but have a cousin Rudy and all ofDP's cats were called it.

There's a 10 month old Rudy in my youngest DS's nursery. He's too young for teasing but he's so gorgeous. I think it's quite easy to pick on any name if you really wanted.

It reminds me of Smithy's sister on Gavin and Stacy. But a nice name though.

Thanks everyone. It's so tricky! It may have come about after some spectacularly bad pregnant dancing in the kitchen to the specials. Now I can't get it out of my head! Poor kid would have to endure me relentlessly singing 'stop your messing around'...

I hadn't thought of the Rudolph connection but the phrase "don't be such a rudy" comes to my mind. Sorry i do think he would be teased with this name.
